NASA Spacecraft Completes Comet Flyby
NASA,Stardust,NeXT,flyby
NASA’s Stardust-NExT mission completed its Valentine’s Day “date with a comet” with its flyby of comet Tempel 1 on Feb. 14. The spacecraft’s closest approach came at approximately 11:40 p.m. EST on Feb. 14.
An imaging sequence of about eight minutes is expected to yield 72 high-resolution images around the time of closest approach for best-resolution coverage of Tempel 1’s nucleus. At the time of closest encounter, the spacecraft was expected to be approximately 124 miles from the comet’s nucleus.
Scientists hope to see any changes on the comet’s surface since it was visited by NASA’s Deep Impact spacecraft in July 2005. Since then, Tempel 1 has completed one orbit of the sun, and scientists are looking forward to discovering any differences in the comet.

Well done, guys.
Congratulations!
Well done, now go for the next one. 😉
@kmg501 do you have any idea what even one of those people are doing?
@Upuauta I do not think Stardust has enough fuel to continue looking for more comets. It did more than what it was programmed to do in 1999, which is good science.
i detect femdom. lot of females the control room.
well done !!
@kmg501 so sacking nasa employees is the answer?? o.O
@kmg501 “That’s the usual attitude by people who are completely disconnected”

@smartingamerica .. That reminds me about scientists talking about the “excluded middle”… Often it appears that there are only 2 choices. (eg. *either explore the solar system, *or help with the struggles of the average (or poor) citizen.) Actually a 3rd choice (the excluded middle) can be to do *both things! … It is likely to be a political decision. A wealthy country can probably afford to fund scientific investigations as well as looking after the poorer members of its society.
As I note that smartingamerica has taken off in a shuttle of his own, seemingly issuing forth blame in many directions may I remind him
that there is no need to dwell upon divine statistics.
Just go back to the Indian Nations who roamed their country, once and used the Universe for many things with considerable knowledge.
How come the women scientists in NASA are so fat?
