Piloted by Space Shuttle commander Chris Ferguson, Atlantis moves through a 360-degree rotation directly beneath the International Space Station. This rotation, known as the RBAR Pitch Maneuver (RPM), enables the occupants of the ISS to photograph Atlantis’ Thermal Protection System for engineers on the ground to check for any damage to the heat resistant tiles.

@FcuKeugenicSS actually, they can’t. And it’s not a piece of cake, they need a lot more fuel to go to the moon, and even if they did land on the moon, they couldn’t get out.

I was 11 when the first shuttle flew. They have always taken my breath away. When it was nose down to Earth here I thought “Now, *that’s* a spaceship!”. It will be missed, but I’m excited about the future. It’s not the end of space (if you’ll pardon the metaphysical pun:)

@Jay3S2 really man? the powers that be will never let us replace fossil fuels, provide free/clean water, or feed the poor. Pretty sure that’s what science is intending to do right now, but without the money, we can’t do that. So, now that the space program is over we should technically have tons of money to devote to those things?!?! NASA and Science were/are never the problems.
