Joanna Stern reviews the Asus Zenbook UX31… one of the first wave of so-called ‘ultrabooks.’ While the styling cues scream Cupertino, the UX31 does a lot to stand up on its own.

the trackpad will probably be fixed woth a software patch. wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened.
Really liking the branding of the verge. The video its crisp and modern while provide clear and useful information. Keep up the good work.
@KungKronberg No, no I don’t think they have since I watched MobileTechReviews video a few days earlier and Lisa has stated that you have to download the driver and the touchpad works fine.
Great review. Quick and to the point. I like it
@TheJK9000 what did you expect, its a apple biased site.…
@TheJK9000 It should work without any updates. They shouldnt sell it if it has any issues like this.
Hey, how about updating the firmware to resolve the touchpad issue like everyone else has mentioned/done who’s reviewed this machine!!! Hello!!! Is anyone there?! What a lame ass video review. Also, let’s review a laptop on a single lap because we just MUST cross our legs! Otherwise I liked the “real perspective” shots of the thing, not super up-close all the time.
I’d go with air !
i bought a ux31, took about 2mins to update to the new bios and the touchpad has been perfect. No reason to get the MBA. I took this thing to work today and EVERYONE asked me about it. Sylish, Fast, Cheap, Not perfect, but pretty close.
When showing off fast resume in Windows, it would be a good idea to disable the logon screen. And really when there’s only one user and no password protection, why keep it?
If somehow the normal way to disable it under power management doesn’t work, try run
control userpasswords2
put Linux mint or ubuntu on it and review it again!
Even if it ASUS may have copied the air design a bit, you can’t say that is not a DAMN GOOD LOOKING notebook!
She is trying mac gestures on windows, bad reviewer…get lost!!!
u look hot
The drivers wee released after the launch as an update and youtube videos are non-updatable. It would also make no sense uploading another video just to mention the improvement of the trackpad through the updated driver. What would be nice though would be having the info about the update in the description.
Be wary of ASUS products ‑the poor quality and sub-par performance are well know issues with the ASUS UX Zenbooks. I really got burned on a new UX31 purchase, and it cost me allot of extra money and down time (incld an RMA). ASUS Support was good, but ineffective … it is/was just a poor quality product. I purchased another brand Ultrabook (HP Spectre), and it has been fantastic. While I like the ASUS Zenbook design (MAC AIR clone), it is a poor quality product …and not worth the money.
I was looking at the processors for these ultrabooks and the i5 or i7 “M” series stand for mobile and are way slower than the regular i5 and i7 processors. The clock speed is slower than my T5300 processor from 2007. Go and compare processors at intel’s website. It wouldn’t let me post the link here.
The Air is the best choice except for one thing: the OS. It kinda sucks and for most people an upgrade to Windows would be necessary and that would cost them another 100 or so bucks.
I don’t understand why keep comparing the two. Only the looks are similar-ish, but after turning both on, there’s a world of difference, lieterally! One is Apple, and the other is, well, not Apple. For me, it’s really not a choice, I have to go for Windows, so anything from Apple I cannot even consider.
what is wrong with you? do you know how well made and highly rated the ux31a is? look again dude, the ux31 is the old model the ux31a is way better
I recently converted over to mac and i have to say dude you’re missing out.
You mean having the power button where the delete button belongs? Or NOT having Windows? Nah, macbook is really not for me, I’m convinced I’m not missing out on anything.
