The Vergecast is back with a very special reunion edition. On today’s episode, Nilay and Paul join Josh in the studio for the first time in over six weeks! With a month full of major tech news, Nilay’s wedding, and Paul’s madcap adventures, the guys have a lot to catch up on. And after a day of celebrating America’s Freedom, The Vergecasters take a moment to reflect on the relatively constrained state of the American wireless marketplace. Are carriers acting as a barrier to the pursuit of innovation? Should patent law be governed by the rules of Streetball? Should Nilay run for president? Find out on today’s Vergecast.

Josh is the worst at that, but I still love the podcast.
Is it just me or Apple is pissing the whole tech-world off with the whole patent thing going on?!
PAUL!
retperf — retroactive perfection
There’s no way in hell, that Paul has remained Internet free. You telling me, he hasn’t glanced at Nilay’s MacBook Air, even in this video? It’s in direct view.
It’s you, I’m afraid. No point in having patents awarded, if you don’t attempt to protect them.
Everyone sues everyone at some time or other. It’s only news though, if Apple are involved, hence why it seems like it’s only Apple that’s doing it.
Great podcast but please stop talking all over each other. It’s headache inducing.
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!
At around 15:30 they’re talking about beer being delivered to them via a ramp/conveyor belt thing. Have they ever seen the remote fridge beer canon…?
I love that they interrupt each other. THAT’S HOW PEOPLE TALK. You talk like this when you’re arguing with your friends, professionals talk like this when they’re debating on news channels, popular forum threads exist solely due to more interesting interruptions. I can’t tell you how dry the Engadget podcast, or other tech sites are in comparison to this. They try so hard to be cordial and stay on topic and stay within the confines of professionalism. The Verge is like: “fuck it”.
I would love to see BB10 make out with Rim.
I imagine it would be like a Mothra v. Godzilla love scene.
lol warren G got to Re Gu Late
Best Vergecast so far. Great job guys!
It’s so frustrating to explain the news to Paul. What’s the use of being a tech writer when you’re not connected to the internet :/ I mean seriously. no offence.
Good VergeCast
Imagine Vlad and Josh together. They’d just interrupt each other ALL THE TIME.
@KevinR415 you won’t be offending him. He won’t be reading your comment.
Fav for regulaters
Great to have you all back.
I know Paul wants to do this non-internet-for-a-year thing so he can write a book, however, there is no excuse for him not knowing even the basics about Google I/O, Jellybean, Nexus 7, Nexus Q, etc. This is still supposed to be a technology show and he is responsible for being at least somewhat prepared. It has been a week and every podcast has reviewed it already. If he can’t be prepared, he needs to get off show or get on internet, in my opinion.
The Swedish suicide thing is actually a missconception, that comes from the highly registrative goverment that keeps a very large information databases over their citizens, and hence have more accurate suicide data — more.
This podcast doesn’t make any sense due to interruptions they throw on each other. I’d rather read a newspaper or a tech magazine.
LOLOLOLO RIM
The comments here (except this one) are bordering on severe retardation.
I like the informal nature of the vergecast. The tangents and joking around are what make it fun to listen to. There are plenty of dull/dry options for the complainers to go to.
Great show but LOL the RIM part was funny
1. Do not talk all together
2. Wait others to finish their expositions
3. Listen what your interlocutor is saying and then answer with something pertinent
i.e. I love the Verge. Keep up the good work
Why do they keep talking over each other
over here, we have unlocked phones. the carriers lock you in with a contract that carries a very heavy penalty for termination. the contract is for 2 years, you pay what’s remain of the total contract value any time you terminate. the earlier you terminate, the more penalty you pay. still better than having bloatware and no OS update to me.
This is a very good episode I like that you guys explained the patent issue. I was not very well educated in the whole patent thing in general thanks guys 😀
