We switched things up for this episode of On The Verge: Nilay took a trip to Washington DC to interview Senator Al Franken. Like Nilay Patel, the Senator has strong opinions on net neutrality and privacy. Unlike Nilay Patel, he can remain calm when explaining the issue to a room full of Senators.
Next, Mary Jo Foley stopped by the studio to talk to Josh, Nilay, and Paul abut all things Microsoft. She pulled no punches when talking about Surface, Ballmer, and Linux. Mary Jo believes that Windows Phone users “think different,” but we can’t help but feel like we’ve heard that somewhere before.
We also heard music from Chipocrite, checked in with Dieter at the Google Fiber launch in Kansas City, and invented a new game show that is totally unique in every way. Seriously, we didn’t just rip off Jeopardy.

interesting “GEEKS” YEAH
I WANT that intro song
third
I’m saying Yahoopadry
In a standard game of Yeopardy, the Final Yeopardy answer has a category.
You do realize that the set is in the style of a late night talk show, right?
Shiteocrite
Really like the Show but Joshs Interview was horrible, just let the people talk dude.
Gabe Newell… Think I see a pattern with him: PS3 bashing, which led to nothing, then Windows 8 bashing. While I feel him (I really didn’t like what Sony was doing with PS3 at first, and I’m not liking Windows 8 any more than he does), but at this point, it feels as if he just likes to grab attention by saying things like that… to make some Valve announcement.
I know our managing editor is a former attorney. But “Law & Policy” has no place on the Verge.
I wish the audience wasnt always so dead
Best episode yet
I am the person who clapped at 47:11 😀
to be fair, when I heard about the lack of a start button I thought that Microsoft was crazy, but then I thought about it, I NEVER use it, and havent really since I got a Windows 7 PC last year
I WAS THERE. OMGIZZLES.
I like the new intro! Maybe only 30 seconds though?
Great show guys! Only critisim is you gotta let the guests speak more, maybe have them on first then bring Paul and Nilay back and discuss afterwards? Seemed like every time Mary was asked a question it was changed three times ans answered buy someone else…
When “Law and Policy” is the dictating factor on how we and future generations with be using the internet you damn right it does!
That was Awesome, great show, great idea, GREAT guests!
on this one i will drink the google kool-aid
The touchpad was not nice hardware. That thing was a brick even the day of release.
Finally got a chance to watch and love the interview with Senator Franken, excellent job Nilay …

Anyone know the name of the intro song?
Great show!
Hah, “disastrophe,” Nilay and his combo words…
Al Franklin should look up the definition of “person” in Black’s Law Dictionary… maybe he wants deniability, or just doesn’t know that the Supreme Court Jesters were correct.
Ouch what’s with the quality
The host gives off just a little bit of a Jeff Goldblum vibe, I think.
i lold so hard at the yeopardy thing 😀 hahaha
epic!
