NASA Lands Car-Size Rover Beside Martian Mountain
NASA,MSL,Landing,Coverage,EDL
NASA’s most advanced Mars rover Curiosity has landed on the Red Planet. The one-ton rover, hanging by ropes from a rocket backpack, touched down onto Mars Sunday to end a 36-week flight and begin a two-year investigation.
The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) spacecraft that carried Curiosity succeeded in every step of the most complex landing ever attempted on Mars, including the final severing of the bridle cords and flyaway maneuver of the rocket backpack.

how many pictures have you sent from mars? I’m sure you can stream 1080p from 140 million miles away.
name a problem that we don’t spend too much money on. Goverments spend more money on military than science. What does that tell you?
doesn’t it say Fuk Li?
‘MURICA
i love how they’re so passionate about their jobs!
its cute how theyre all congradulating each other
RESCUE THE OTHER ROVERS!!!!!!!
??? atmosphere in mars is almost zero, parachute didnt work at all, and you still believe their landing the robot to the Mars. use your brain.
Just wondering if you ever actually know what you’re talking about before you speak? This is a remarkable achievement that will go down in the history of mankind as astonishing — and it cost $7 per American over the course of a few years. That’s right.…. 7 whole hard earned dollars. The war in Iraq, by comparison, will cost each of us around $12,000. The $850 billion Wall Street bailout cost more than NASA’s entire 54-year existence. I would rather choose to spend 7 dollars.
Did you kinow that the entire budget for this mission isn’t even 0.1% of the military budget? just saying, yeah?
also
>implying that the money not spent on space exploration would immediately be spent to help poor people
I think you don’t know how the world works.
You know what’s kind of cool? the rover had already landed about ten minutes before this video was filmed, it just took about 20 minutes for the signal to reach Earth.
As a player of Kerbal Space Program, my respect for these men and women just increased tenfold.
“Touchdown confirmed, we are safe on Mars.”

Fuk li, i love that name on his computer lol.
Imagine how they slept after that lol
Actually the budget of NASA is a tiny fraction compared to say…what the US Military has. As for solving Earth problems, for instance the International Space Station is a microcosm of how an efficient world can be in terms of recycling wastes, using solar energy, etc…
That one guy’s name was Fuk Li.
just one question, I may be stupid , but why don’t they use hd camera like the ones on earth, with 1080 reso and bright colors ,
3:09 one man spoiler celebration! <3 you NASA!
The cameras they use are much better than 1080p. There aren’t any bright colors to see on mars, though. Just different shades of brown.
so like the colors on earth that makes the cameras look so good,
I get you now, thanks for replying, 🙂 always thought the different haha
She is crazy, the Curosity lady
Still!
This is a very special moment for mankind!!!
Thousands of people from Universities around the world was watching this too and had tears in their eyes and had after it mars landing parties, for example my friends in Vienna!
Nice greetings to the rest of the world and to the NASA Team!
I am here in Bangkok.
We watched it too and had a party after it too …
To all the people who are talking here about god …
Stay in your self created virtual world and be happy with it,
but let us people, who use the brain, out of it.
We don’t want to be included in your world,
which is anyway cruel …
This here is sience and nothing else!
Would have thought they would have better CG and coverage of the decent to mars and landing rather than a bunch of people all going yeah we are great woohoo for the cameras.
Nobody cared about image… Wrong people have been chosen for these jobs… lol
Why are they even tracking all those events by the second? It’s not as if they could influence any of them at all, even by the tiniest bit. Even if they had shut down or blown up the entire control center at the beginning of that landing sequence, the lander would have made the exact same picture-perfect landing. In fact, it had already completed it before the hot phase of the whole thing started on earth. So they could just sleep through the entire event, come to work the next morning and see whether it all worked out or not. Right? 😀
hard to believe this was 3 years ago
In a sentence most and most brilliant sons of HOLLY GOD. I want to reach in their position.
