ughh
Omg they say Android is hard to figure out!
Windows 8 looks so complicated lol
All of those unnecessary swiping gestures and fluffy Transition animations kill me lol.
Nexus 4
Its nice to know ppl like windows 8. I like new concepts but never thought this would catch-on and compare with the other OSs. Have you heard of android?
I think am a Nexus addict, I was willing to give W8 a chance with the Lumia which I adore, after trying out installing W8 Pro on the PC, it became clear to me that Microsoft is willing to give me up a (Google services user) than draw me in to their OS and maybe try to win me over time. So I guess it’s the N4.
my friend once said his iphone 5 is 100x better then a windows phone. he now shares a phone with his dad
you’re not a real person, but a company. the THUMBS UP on this comment are FAKE!!!
yes maybe
Does xbox music support gapless playback?
Good
if i could plug into my google services, I’d be willing to give it a go, even though I’d have to let go of the apps I’ve spent money on… but until then it is a no-go
something that current marketshare underdogs (winmo and BB) should consider is some kind of way to give some of the apps youve already purchased to you for free with a new phone… might ease some pain of changing
I like that Kid’s Corner and Smart Glass is ill. One thing I heard is that if you miss a notification then it’s just gone. Can anyone explain this to me? I’m an Android user so that doesn’t make sense to me
There isn’t a unified notification center yet. If an app is pinned as a tile, then the notification will stay there, but for any apps that aren’t, you only get the first notification.
As an Android user, I welcome Windows 8. I really love flexibility of Android and don’t plan to change my platform in near future, but it is good to know there is another mobile OS that does more than being an app drawer.
So important apps should be pinned but people would probably pin their most used stuff anyway. Do you know if wireless tethering, custom keyboards, messaging apps/skins, and root/admin access is provided?
@residualwealth Idk how to explain but Microsoft is currently wotking on a notification center so no need to worry
This is soooo much better than iOS 😛
Wireless tethering — I believe microsoft implemented it, but your carrier controls it. Custom keyboards- nope, sadly. Messaging apps — I don’t know if apps have access to text messages or not. Skins — Microsoft won’t even let carriers/manufacturers skin WP, though you can choose a color scheme. Root/admin access- I think only for members of the dev program or something like that.
In all, it certainly isn’t android.
I agree.
Yes, but ONLY jellybean, that’s the only version of the OS that comes near the smoothness of WP7 and 8
that’s right, but i wouldn’t choose a lower end android phone. a windows phone from 200 bucks runs smoother than an android from the same price
I’ve been using Samsung Galaxy S3 for a while, then switched to Lumia 920 after my screen cracked. Amazing OS. Love it.
I like how this review wasn’t that negative.
I love The Verge production’s
Stupid htc devices with the power button at the top it really sucks
Windows 8 is better than ios but it don’t know if ot is better than android because I never used it. If you are not sure, windows 8!!!
i luv windows phone over android becoz of fluidity and smoothness app store are growing pretty quick but the lack of games is a big problem for the WP store
Windows Phone had a really nice performance advantage against Google’s OS. But, project butter really messed things up. I don’t think performance is going to be dropping in Google’s OS soon. At least for nexus devices. The reason why Windows Phone is so smooth is because of the standardised hardware.
the nt kernel made the OS heavy apparently.… You can play Temple Run on low end Android but, not on a WP Device… maybe for the sake of performance…but, TR works on HTC Explorer without much lag.
Almost five years later and both Chris and Windows Phone 8 are no longer.…..
when phones were small.
I remember getting the Lumia 920 on preorder and it was such a great hardware and software experience. The camera was the best of the best, wireless charging, the microphone recorded great sound at concerts, the OS was so fluid, and AR, before there’s even mobile VR! I feel like it’s such missed opportunity and a pity that Microsoft failed to capture the market. It could have been a great mobile platform after iOS and Android.
Still the best looking interface on any mobile device ever
I remember being enthralled by this phone as a kid. It was the coolest thing ever to me lol
