Fighting Irish Football Flies High with Ford
[vid_tags]
Aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 34 Commander Kevin Ford, a 1982 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, discussed life and work on the orbital laboratory and the success of the Notre Dame football team during a pair of in-flight interviews Nov. 27, 2012 with WNDU-TV in South Bend, IN and the Notre Dame Observer newspaper. Ford arrived on the station in late October and will remain in orbit as station commander through mid-March when he returns to Earth.

How fast can you spin in space?
depends on the strength of the force acting upon you
I thought when you push yourself. A bit like a pirouette in ice skating.
How long would would one spin? Would you get sick of it?
Question after question^^.
Are experiments with fire possible on ISS?
Wish I could do a backflip in space one day.
Since he, and the ISS, is in orbit, he’s actually falling. I suppose gravitational tidal forces could have a microscopic effect, but you wouldn’t feel it in a lifetime of floating around. I suspect he simply steadied himself relative to the station around him. No doubt there are plenty of holds spread around the interior, both purpose-built and incidental, to help with that.
good to know that we have a ND fighting Irish alum up on ISS
He is hooking his foot under a hand-hold. There are many hand-holds located inside & outside of the station to help the astronauts secure themselves against floating away. On the outside they use a special tether system for safety.
Just awesome! That is all…
lol “4am my time” seems strange to have a 24 hour clock when your outside the earth haha
Like I said, depends on the strength of the force acting upon you, in this case it depends on how hard you push. You would also spin forever until another force is acted upon you.
I would imagine you would get sick of it quite quickly :).
I really enjoy how the interviewer didnt ask the generic “whats it like to use the space bathroom” and “whats it like in zero G” and actually asked about Ford’s research. Thumbs Up!
I still find it amazing I am sitting in bed and watching this on my ASUS tablet, Star Trek coming true slowly…Thanks Laurie
