We spend a lot of time sitting in our homes or at work, staring at screens. But that’s not all technology is; even the most rustic, most remote places are being touched by technology. Or, at least, they’re being overrun by technology when the Top Shelf crew goes camping.
This is Top Shelf. Join David Pierce and friends as they head out into the wilderness to discover how gadgets and technology affect camping — and whether that’s a good thing or not. More from The Verge:

That’s why I noticed a little moire and aliasing. Still superb shots. Great work.
DAT MUSIC..
This was good!
just heard of that biolite campstove which is amazing.. i hope its available in my country!
Guys please… please don’t say things like ‘only take what you need’… The amount of time i spend searching for people that only took the minimum… huge!
Keep it up verge
Gezzz…it shows how they never camped one day on their lifes… 😀
When I saw the Heimplanet tent I thought it was amazing. Still think so. Yet the prices definitely broke my dreams.
The Heimplanet Cave is definitely quite the tent. Those braces (the ones that surround the actual tent) are really strong — way more than you might think. Plus it’s totally roomy in there!
We used a C100, and you’re right: the ISO capabilities are wild.
A compass is a gadget, it’s practically the original gadget. If you want to navigate without a gadget, then you will need to use the sun and the moss on the trees.
well done, Verge! that camp stove is amazballs!
12:50 Ohh David…
Petzl Lamps are specifically made for cave exploring it adjusts the brightness if someone looks at you so they don’t get blinded underground
Where are the links to the devices reviewed?
a first.. dang
Please make more of this kind of videos. This one was amazing.
BTW: What is that sleeping bag / tent hybrid from here 00:24 ?
Best Top Shelf wish the verge could keep up the work.
These videos are beautifully put together.
100/100
Very very helpful … please more videos like this.
That’s the JakPak, a hybrid jacket, sleeping bag, and tent.
Just some good old fashioned bug spray! And long socks.
Hennessy Hammocks all the way!!
Did you guys get cell service out there?
You guys should def do more vids like this.
david is drunk
Would love to see a comparison of solar charging camping systems.
I have an REI Half Dome 2 Plus and I have to ask: How did you guys mess up that tent so much? I can assemble this tent naked and stoned in two minutes or less — or… it feels like that. Great tent!
Technology has solved the ‘feeling gross’ problem; solar showers. They’re pretty inexpensive too. Odd they didn’t think to search for one.
Evan!
Backpacking is more fun
One of my favorite TheVerge videos in a while lol
im a camper as well in fact im the best camper in all video games
is it just me or does the verge guy sound like he’s drunk when he’s talking to the other guy by the campfire?
Stealth, unseen, unheard, unsmelled, no fire, no light, no hot rations. Sleep on ground cloth, bag, no tent. Totally undetected by man, landowners, law enforcement, or domestic animals. An exciting challenge, all the rest is fluff for sillyboys.
