Would you like me to attach a copy of my receipt?
Contd…
That said, you are correct, I never implied there were no apps that were useful. There are a few I have seen, namely the POS industries. I DO have an iPAD and know it very well, I also service and support apple products. Released in 2010, I’d expect the market dominance. That’s MS’ fault for missing the boat. That don’t detract from the SPro2’s sheer brilliance in being the best enterprise grade tablet form factor which runs a full OS+aps. Ipad don’t come close. the market is changing.
Its ok, I believe you. hehe, you actually bought AppleCare… 😀
I ALWAYS buy support. AppleCare is actually worth it, sadly its only availa for 3 years on any product. Which incidentally forces people to choose to buy a new machine when theirs STB after that, hence their massive success. Some say that bad, but in the end, Apple is not top 2 of most valuable companies, so that says something in itself. MS is still in, and has been in top 5 though so don’t go running out pumping your chest.
“My aspect ratio complaint is that the Surface is very long in portrait mode which makes it very awkward to use if you like to read that way.”
Ok but that’s actually your personal preference. Maybe you need to hightail it down to a Microsoft store and load your docs to see. Dell and other enterprise manufacturers have been making rotating monitors for years that are used byt typesetters. they can contain anything from full newspaper page to A size documents. Its perfect for movie watching also.
“The Smart Cover is a stand (upright and for typing) for $40. If you want a bluetooth keyboard cover they’re $50–80. The Surface doesn’t come with the cover and that’s $100.”
To compare with MS $100 backlit cover
Ok lets do math, from Apples site today:
iPad “Smart” Cover — Polyurethane — Dark Gray — 39
(really, how smart is it? Its a magnet, nothing more)
Apple Magic Mouse — 69
Apple Wireless Keyboard — English — 69
$177 and you have to lug around three bulky items.
“library of native iOS software is huge compared to Windows RT (hell, there’s few for Windows 8).”
True and false. Apple had a full two years ahead of RT. Ms already has well over 100K apps in far less time, not few. Plus the junk apps, which don’t count have all been weeded out from the apple/android libs.
When youre talking “Native IOS SW” Apple has very few, 3rd parties make the apps,. Does the ipad run the MS office suite? Nope. in RT it’s included, in Pro its $99 and you get 5 full copies.
lastly, don’t get me wrong. im not saying ipad is worthless. Its a good product, that is struggling to stay competitive. Apple aint going anywhere, so you can still buy yoru shiny products if you want them. The Surface Pro2 is a trending product that if built for enterprise and marketed there. It is a productivity product, and offers features the ipad, androids don’t. in the end its your dollars, your chose so spend it where you think you will get the best value, im not here to change that.
forgot to mention the improved screen and battery life
The Surface 2 (RT) doesn’t have any innovation, just admit it. It a expensive youtube player, web borwser minus decent games and apps availability.
I do agree you with the full leged Surface 2 Pro.
You are talking out your pooper, again.
Stop that. It makes you look foolish.
I’m not here for your approval, nor to change your mind, only present facts.
I do admit, you brought up an interesting point. I have many clients that have ipads, and see them used frequently in cafes, etc. What is done on them? Email, Web surfing, email and more web surfing.
Then the parent hands it to the kid and he plays games on it and it becomes a babysitter. THATS the ipad.
When I see Surfaces, its mainly pros and students, people are doing research, homework, programming, CAD, plus email and surfing. The parents gave the kid their old ipad as a babysitter.
BTW, have you ever through about wanting a S2P with switchable graphics cards (HD5000 and ATI/nVidia chip) like IBM Thinkpads hadbeing doing for years?
I think it would be great to push better editing and gaming capabilities to the Surface
The fact that it comes with Microsoft Office with Outlook is pretty sweet.
Interesting idea, however the wole issue MS is attacking is the experience. MS always has partners with myriads of HW options. That is also an experience control issue. Once you start changing out HW, the control is lost (Apples largest success is control of their HW).
I do wish it would do WIDI to enable presentations easier, and a wired Ethernet jack, and mobil phone support. those three items would make this an unstoppable enterprise device. I hate dongles because I lose and break them,
One other thought is that the base processing power for video is rather exceptional. I was it doing 4K raw video with no lag.
in order to have more faster and beautiful experience.
Surface is about 400$ with double the storage than the iPad that costs 700$
The Surface RT was never meant to be (or marketed as) na enterprise offering. It is, however, a great student option as it comes with office for free and has great battery life, screen and keyboard. It is a much better option than an ipad anytime when you need to do any kind of work that can be done with office, not to mention having the advantage of having a usb 3 port, a great keyboard, etc.
Why is the Surface 2 better than the iPad? Office, 16X9 aspect ratio for video, SD card slot and USB 3.0, built in kickstand, keyboard/covers that really work, 200Gb of SkyDrive, benchmarks that beat the iPad 4 and cost!
This guy is useless, so uninterested the worst review I’ve ever heard,
if I read I use surface if I study — surface, other things — surface. bang!
There’s also a graphic increase to 1080p and twice as big speakers on both sides
Also to add the screen got a bump too- to full 1080p.
puberty
You have this and then you have the lumia 2520, what is better?
do you want to use desktop apps get the pro that is why surface suck need to spend money to get something better but they don’t think about the app store which is too poor I prefer another tablet.
that is why surface suck, it doesn’t have even Google chrome on the app store and to use desktop apps you need to buy the pro edition wtf
finally a tablet that’s usable for school or work..
Hi The Verge, Great video very informative and usefull! I have a question, what tablet would you recommend for college? I want it to have a 10,1″ screen with a nice and crisp screen. I got a max of 500 euro’s to spend. Thanks!
you forgot full adobe flash
Popularity is completely irrelevant to what a product is. Office 2013 is WAY ahead of iWork, which is extremely basic. Surface comes with Office 2013, not 365. No subscription. Dropbox only offers 5GB free. So stop your gibberish. Skydrive is far superior to iCloud and Dropbox. Many people DO care about 200GB of cloud space. 60GB isn’t much. Considering people fill 1TB hard drives all the time.
Why would anyone want to put Google Chrome on the Surface?
Holy! Are you 5? “You need to spend money to get something better”… congratulations! More money = better product (for the most part). *hands clap*

ipad 32gb $600 + kick stand $50 + useless usb adapter $50 + hdmi adapter $50 = 750 dollars. Surface 2 32gb with everything included = $449. $300 dollars difference. I choose surface 2 because it can do much more than ipad. And also with surface 2 you get 200 gb of free storage with skydrive and 1 year international calling with Skype, and Microsoft Office a $140 dollar value.
Awsome video
My Surface2 dead.
