David Pierce and The Verge Video Team review Apple’s new 2013 Mac Pro. To a select few, Apple’s diminutive desktop is exactly what they need — a sleek, relatively portable desktop with enough power to edit 4K video at (sometimes) blistering speeds. But for everyone else, the story of the new Mac Pro is one of diminishing returns. More from The Verge:

Oo a space heater
LOL!!! Three THOUSAND USD for 256 GB SSD, an Intel Xeon E5-1620, 12 GB ram and two graphic cards?? So essentially 900 USD for the GPU’s and 2000 USD for the rest. Okay.….…..
Let me get that straight..
- CPU: approx 225 USD,
- SSD: approx 175 USD,
- RAM approx 100 USD
- GPU’s approx 900 USD
Total: 1400 USD
Tell me: What’s the Mobo and case made of.… Gold????????????
Lol at the end… So who is it for then?.… The old Mac Pro is still faster at rendering content. The only thing I like about the new Mac Pro is the design.
The real question is… What dumb ass would spend £8,000 on a computer that for well under £1000 you can get the same if not better results on a pc?
Great review man! The Verge always has great videos!
Oh, it dropped a few frames whilst running four 4k streams at full resolution whilst being coloured, you say?.… That’s it, I’m not getting one.
So you say it costs $2,000 and I can’t play even Battlefield 3 on it?
I have never seen such an ugly vacuum
is the graphic cards of mac pro 2014 is faster than the gtx 760? or is there a graphics card out there that would equal the gpu of the mac pro? thanks for help.…..
the mac pro is like a pencil holder
I stopped listening after he said 2,999$ why over price something that probably only cost 100$ to make
For audio pros composing orchestral film scores (like myself) this MacPro is a dream come true. Having to load 1000s of files into RAM, while 1000s more are streaming from disk on the PCI flash drive or the Thunderbolt 2 bus there is nothing like it available. While faster CPU would be welcome, that’s Intel’s fault. And for Adobe Premiere, seriously, screw em. Get with the times and quit trying to punish Apple because they have a competing video app. That’s Adobe’s fault. And for gamers, please grow the hell up and quit comparing the MacPro to your cheap i7 gaming rig. This MacPro is not meant for playing your games. It’s meant for making them. Get it?
HP makes a very similar computer that costs about $11,000. If you try to match the components as closely as possible, it would actually cost around $11,500 to build the equivalent Windows-powered DIY PC. A 12-core Intel Xeon E5-2697 V2 CPU costs $2750, and two AMD FirePro W9000 graphics cards cost $3,400 each. Some PC user are just plain hurt that nobody in the PC world has the guts to make something this cool, (not to mention this natively runs UNIX (OSX) but can also run Windows in a protected environment. Look up the prices if you don’t believe me.
This computer looks pretty good but for me it’s not worth it simply because Apple tries to hide into the desing which is good but for the most part you will have your Mac Pro sitting in a corner of your room and you won’t be looking at it most of the time. This is a nice desktop that it’s portable as they say but i don’t see any person taking it in a bag pack just because you need a display and a keyboard.
The apple store gave me a great deal on mine. I shelled out a little over three grand, they took me out back kicked me in the balls and sent me on my merry way.
theverge using $8000 version of mac pro offcourse it gonna fast you silly ‚try using basic $3000 quad core version and you’ll get different story
0:53 no, the magic mouse sucks ass
Come one! Set a timer on the pop up boxes in the video!
now i know
It’s true, it looks like a trashcan, but it’s a great machine and to be honest, it’s total new and innovative. I guess that’s the name of the game in this case. There are now more powerful computers of course. But you don’t get the same eco-system you have with a mac. Of course, i understand, not everyone like OS X, so it all depends on what you like.
shut up in france only
Still love how this old design looks. Hope they bring something similar back eventually.
Just purchased one of these beauties on ebay. Fully maxed out model for £795. I have wanted one of these all my life. What a bargain. This over M1 anyday
Now we can buy this for about $300
Got the 8‑core D700 for $250 and it’s awesome. Running logic 11 with opencore
