Samsung’s history with wearables is spotty at best. But the Gear Fit is a more interesting proposition: it’s one part fitness tracker, one part smartwatch, with a curved screen and software designed specifically for your wrist. But is this the one we’ve been waiting for? Dan Seifert put on his running shoes and found out.

Wow Looks amazing 🙂
My opinion of samsung over the years has gone on either side of the scale. One device they shine another just seems thrown together. That is how I feel about the Gear Fit. I was VERY interested in this when it was first announced. To me, it seems like samsung is more of a follower than a leader as well as a copycat of numerous other and dare I say better companies. Just my opinion. I am waiting for later this year to see more about the Moto 360 as well if Apple releases a iteration of the smart watch.
Man, samsung is such a feature oriented company.
you dont have to look at the watch at that angle you know.…
Galaxy smartwatches…pass.
Waiting for Google IO where hopefully there will be more on Android Wear, Moto 360 and G Watch.
Let’s hope that Android Wear would be the first to set the standards for Android Wear.
I wonder what’s the android version working underneath? Jellybean? KitKat?
I’m waiting iWatch
I’m waiting iWatch
Whata waste!!
this is probably the dumbest thing one can buy.…
The batrery lasts much longer than 2 days, at least 4–5 days
Great Review!
Have you tried rotating the display to the inside of your wrist and then try out the heart rate monitor?
verge is bunch of iFags
People need to stop expecting too much from samsung. Shitty hardware and gimmicks feature are what they do lol
Nice review, good job!
My hope for a curved display dashed…
shame. Its definitely the best looking smart watch on the market, but if it can’t get the job done, then its just not worth it. personally, I’m holding out for the iwatch
Doesn’t look like you ran a day in your life lol
Guys. If you’re looking for a good fitness tracker, check out Atlas wearables. It was funded through indiegogo. Seriously, check it out.
What is it that people want from smart watches? It’s a small screen to read huge articles on it. . It’s more to let you know you have email txt or important missed call without taking ur phone out of the purse or pocket.… I like the design and all about it … Agree that it might not be accurate for recording steps properly but that might be software issues that can be fixed in near future with software update …
Maybe people want smartphone in a watch form …
I lost it at HANDsome
can we control the camera app with the gear fit?to take photos?please reply.
Maybe you are just super un-athletic and that’s why it doesn’t much your activity level.
so I had credits at a sporting good store from returning something, I didn’t really see anything interesting but since this watch was on sale, I decided to give it a chance… I mainly wanted the HRM feature so I can do cardio withOUT having to wear a chest strap… and I can honestly say, most of these reviewers saying that this watch doesn’t read your heart rate accurately aren’t using it right. I’ve done 6 sessions of cardio (on both treadmill and running out in the sidewalks) and wore my Runtastic HRM chest strap at the same time and I can honestly say it’s pretty dern close… sometimes it’s exactly what the Runtastic is showing, sometimes it’s off by a few beats/second but there’d be a 2–3 seconds delay… not big deal to me.
Also, when you get this watch out of the box, there’s a very small piece of protective plastic cover on the HR sensor… it’s very easily overlooked… I would bet money a lot of people don’t even know it and aren’t taking it off, thus causing the watch to give inaccurate readings.
I bought 1 today.… 1. I have it full functional with my Sony Xperia Z 2. 2–3 days of battery is fine, I charge my tablet & phone every night religiously anyway 3. I installed a 3rd party app that leaves the screen on permanently. I keep hearing all these complaints, when 90% of them can be fixed with tweaking.
Well you know, Samsung just can’t make anything right other than refrigerator..
This wearable device only works with samsung mobile phone. That’s a bad thing I guess.
Some of the facts there a wrong… But yeah i do agree that they should have worked on more things instead of going: This is our new product, it’s pretty and it tracks your steps and much more. I do own one and it gets the job done quite well. And also do remember what year it is we aren’t expecting watches to do our work at the moment. Smart watches and fitness trackers are a new thing. So we shouldn’t be expecting them to text and ring from them. I would expect that people would use their phone to do that.
great review!
can it work on s6
The Gear Fit ($179 New Zealand) is easy to use, last five days (max) and swiping is better. No voice commands but the notification center is customisable from the gear manager app. The restriction to Samsung phones is not at all a bad since Apple does it too with the Apple Watch.
Samsung should be applauded for using a different operating system to Android Wear. The lack of software customisation from Android Wear is the biggest thing against it right now. At least with Samsung and Apple’s offerings, users can get unique experiences in software and hardware on the smart watch.
Final point: most of the Samsung watches (and every non Apple watch), have better battery life than the current Apple Watch (with sleep tracking and fitness tracking to boot). Period.
End of speech. Lol.
😆😆😆😆😆
i just bought the samsung gear fit 2 and i came here to see how the fit 1 was cause i saw it at walmart for 70 dollars
im keeping the fit 2
whoever did this review is definitely an iPhone lover…he just basically told us everything bad about this watch…but, he’s so wrong because I have one of those. I think he should go to the hospital and check himself, because that gear fit is always. accurate.
Please help me out to connect with iphone 7
I have difficulty finding replacement straps for this watch
