Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is opening this week to critical acclaim. It’s the sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the eighth ‘Apes’ film overall. Or to put it another way, it’s “The Sequel to the Loose Remake of the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.” Okay, so that title isn’t quite as catchy. Joshua Topolsky takes a look back at all eight films and makes an impassioned plea to go watch original five-film series right now. Literally. Right. Now. Go.

Sub-300 club 😀
I love that you did this. I’m such a big fan and own the original movies on DVD.
Mind. Fak.
I love the interesting parallels between humans fighting apes versus humans fighting robots. One is a fear of our origins while the other is a fear of the future perhaps?
i don’t need to know anything about planet of the apes
I sat down and watched all the original ones on VHS straight in 2002
Read the book and watched them all..
I’m the only person I know who actually really liked the 2001 Planet of the Apes movie. That final battle was just super cool. Improvised nuclear space cannons FTW.
Had to keep my eyes closed while watching and stop at 39 seconds in when spoilers were announced. Nobody is spoiling this movie for me but I’m sure this video is very enjoyable for people who somehow manage to absorb spoilers without feeling pain.
You guys never disappoint no matter the topic, great video!
Thanks for the spoiler warning. I couldn’t finish the video because of it, but I gave you guys a like.
“So we can all expect many more years of apes battling humans”
Fine with me, at least it’s not zombies..
Thank you Josh.
wow! Josh’s voice scared me. very loud intro.
Great recap by The Verge
if this takes longer than 90″ I won’t have enough lives to descend from the tree.
would you stare at a calendar or go skiing?
I’ve seen the movie. All I have to say is this: A Dual Wielding ape riding a horse charging a tank. Yes, it is that awesome.
Badass summary! Awesome!
lol really the old sequel better and good? hahaha they were terrible. best ones so far its the 1968 version, tim burton version(it wasnt that bad) , rise and dawn.
I thought Beneath the Planet of the Apes was awful. The makeup being replaced with masks was lame, the mutants stole most of the movie, the fire effects were some of the worst I’ve ever seen, and how the fffff does the ending happen? The end result of what happens in the movie makes no sense. It just seemed like the writers tried to take a giant dump on the first movie because they were jealous of the accomplishment of the first movie’s writers. There was a lot of directions they could have gone with a sequel, why in the love of hell was that the one they took?
Finally, someone who GETS IT
beneath planet of the apes was the worst of the original pota movies! My favorite one was escape because it highly featured zira and cornelius, whom I love so much! 🙂 Also i cried at the end of the last one, conquest, when they showed ceaser’s statue crying.…
I wonder what Roddy McDowall (Caesar) and Kim Hunter (Zira) in Heaven, must be thinking about these reboots. Don’t like ’em?
Do like ’em? Or don’t care? Just curious.
I haven’t seen it yet, gonna watch it on weekend
If seen every movie the original is probaly the best through cant wait till new one

Several Astronauts are killed? Wrong. Only 3 of the 4 landed alive, and only 1 was killed. Escape was in the 90s? No, wrong again. The Dog & Cat Plague was in ’83. Conquest was supposed to be the 90s.
I dont get why the Tim Burton reboot got so much hate? I loved it!!
Are you gay or something? You keep calling young boys very handsome in such a thirsty voice tone.
Can someone respond with the movies in order? From the very beginning to the new ones?.. please and thank you.
You forgot the 1987 film “Time of the Apes”
