Orbital 2 Mis­sion to the space sta­tion previewed

The prelaunch sta­tus of the upcom­ing Orbital‑2 Mis­sion to the Inter­na­tion­al Space Sta­tion was dis­cussed dur­ing a pre-launch brief­ing seen on NASA Television.

Orbital Sci­ences Cor­po­ra­tion’s Cygnus car­go space­craft is sched­uled to launch from the Mid-Atlantic Region­al Space­port at NASA’s Wal­lops Flight Facil­i­ty in Vir­ginia on Sun­day, July 13 at 12:52 p.m. ET, with more than 3,000 pounds of sup­plies for the sta­tion, includ­ing sci­ence exper­i­ments to expand the research capa­bil­i­ty of the Expe­di­tion 40 crew mem­bers aboard the orbit­ing lab­o­ra­to­ry, crew pro­vi­sions, spare parts and exper­i­ment hardware.

This and future com­mer­cial car­go resup­ply flights will ensure a robust nation­al capa­bil­i­ty to deliv­er crit­i­cal sci­ence research to orbit, sig­nif­i­cant­ly increas­ing NASA’s abil­i­ty to con­duct new sci­ence inves­ti­ga­tions to the only lab­o­ra­to­ry in microgravity.
