During a July 31 briefing at NASA headquarters, agency officials announced seven science instruments, out of fifty-eight proposed, have been selected to be part of the next rover NASA will send to Mars in 2020. The Mars 2020 rover will be a new version of the Curiosity rover currently operating on Mars – with more sophisticated hardware to conduct unprecedented science and exploration technology investigations, including geological assessments, habitability of the environment and searching for signs of past life on the Red Planet.

Question guy’s.…we landed on the moon,or so you guy’s claim we did.…we never knew they would get back off the moon after arriving so they must have been sent there knowing there was a chance they might never be able to return.….why not do it with Mars…we sent Maven to mars to get Data.…why not just send someone that’s willing to go with that knowledge they might never return but they would go down in history as being the first to go.they would be able to give more data then a machine or even use the machine’s better then we can from Earth.
mineral is important to get the economic motivation to mars.
I hope we have better wheels on this rover.

Another rover? By the time humans get to Mars the place is gonna be a junkyard. More chances of finding life on Europa than Mars.

When do you plan on sending man to mars, we have been talking about this since I was a kid. What are we waiting for I know we have to be ready by now. How long do we have to wait. I seen man walk on the moon with my mom and now my mom is 94 years old now. We have done nothing since the 70’s come on NASA lets get stepping before someone beat us to it and you know who I am talking about.

Great ! Another rover , how exciting . Give the job to space x they’ll get to mars and back while you guys play with rc cars and they won’t have to hitch a ride from the Russian’s .
Rock core boring sounds interesting
But boring Ice is more interesting since you can tell the changes in Mars climate and its ancient atmosphere millions of years ago just by looking at its colour, its contents and its ring layer formation like tree’s data.
The mineral, chemical and the potential of finding found organisms would be frozen unchanged like someone finding a prehistoric animal in ice (e.g. Mammoth) and goes hand in hand with our international scientific knowledge from planet Earth Polar Regions
Plus you don’t have to bore too deep to go back millions of years and it’s easier to bore through ice than through dead rock.
Also core samples could be filtered on clear slides (dried or wet) and looked through a small digital microscope camera on rover.
After all you can see small organisms with the naked eye so a simple microscope camera or magnify glass could do the job and that would be a sight for the eyes live from NASA if any sample show a organism, movement, cell, budding, division or diatoms etc..
A laboratory rover placed on Mars iced regions, not too hot, not too cold but just right from NASA Goldie Locks statement.
Also you can do experiments to produce oxygen from the heated ice cores, bore hard and soft rocks in icy regions and do both kinds of samplings.
SEND HUMANS TO MARS!!!!!!!!!!!! AND EUROPA!!!!!!!!

Mars isn’t generating any excitement that a Europa mission would.
There is no need to send another scientific rover on Mars when space x or Mars one is poised to land humans there with or with out more scientific data.

If you are alive in 2020 to see this mission to mars, then remember you read it here first. They will either find primitive life, or archaeological evidence of ancient life. Why? Because this is the next phase in the programming of humans, to acclimate them to the idea of the existence of aliens. We have been led down the path like children. How reliable will rover2020 be for producing a geochronology of the mineralset it finds—will it trek globally and get us a 4.6 Gyr water-ring-chronology of Mars surface, or only in its crater?

Hey Nasa, what does Mars sound like? Hey Nasa, what does Mars smell like? Hey Nasa, what is the video like on mars when you actually record the rover wheels turning on the dirt, or catch a dust devil in action? The new rover will have over 20 cameras and not a single one records video, and I get it there is not much animation on mars, but we still want to see video. This is not the Viking 1 and 2 days, Pictures are done to death, and it has become boring.
Why are you so hell bent on finding life on Mars? There is so many ways you can look for it. I’m sure there is fossilized microbial bacteria somewhere on Mars like there is throughout our solar system(and even then that is very boring). The ingredients for life are all throughout our universe, and it would not be a shocker if you find it on Mars, it’s old now, just leave it alone, people are no longer inspired by this. The only thing interesting about Mars rover 2020 is that it’s going to make oxygen, and to see how the new wheels do on the surface of Mars.
People are getting tired of waiting a whole decade only to find out you are sending the very same rover with the same tech on board, with so called new ways to hunt for life. Please cut out all this life hunting garbage just to satisfy the curiosity of a hand full of lab nerds. I understand by using the same rover you save money on R & D and its proven. Please just find other ways to utilize this thing other than the hunt for life.
Really, why didn’t you put the equipment on curiosity … you’re going to Mars you figure you want to look for life I as well, for the money we spent should already been on it. Just another way of stalling about life on Mars
Jason Mars is going to be home to humans someday, so what we learn will help support humans redevelopment of Mars.
