ISS Benefits for Humanity: Found at Sea
International Space Station (Satellite),NASA,Bolden,Vessel-ID
The Vessel-ID System investigation on the International Space Station demonstrated the ability for a space-based radio receiver to track a ship’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal, the marine equivalent of the air traffic control system. Since being turned on in 2010, Vessel-ID has been able to relay more than 400,000 ship position reports from more than 22,000 ships in a single day, proving a quantum leap in the ship tracking ability of coast guards around the world. This ability, coupled with multiple AIS tracking satellites launched since, is already making travel among the waves safer for thousands of ships around the globe.

I read ISIS benefits for humanity.
Huehue brain, hueheu.
Awesome!
I can find no fault in any of this! This is but one, of hundreds of reasons we need to continue our exploration and push into space.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Good work ESA!
Brilliant
Why is it different from any other satellite?
Epic music anyone?
One of the reason’s we need to keep the ISS, we have expanded our knowledge is so many way.. Don’t get rid, please keep the ISS going..
at 4:37 why did that guy gesture his hand when he said science like this. “Science”.
Can some one tel me the songs?
+uripre
Why ask a question then not let anyone reply?
NASA on a roll first today about the plant grown on space and now this bravo my friend bravo!! We as humans are progresing a lot cause of you thanks
Now this is. A bigger step for Mankind, the one step on moon didn’t benefit us this is the future soon will be able humans travel not earth but the solar stytem how could we put life on mars and have two Earths once agian
Sorry, I love the ISS, I love space travel/exploration but the ISS has been an obscenely expensive project. It’s been a waste of money when you consider what missions could have been carried out with that money instead.
And in this case, to try and justify the ISS by displaying it’s GPS abilities is a joke. We could monitor vastly more surface area of the planet using standard satellites for the money we’ve spent on it.
In nearly 20 years the AMS is the only worthwhile experiment onboard.
Putting AIS receiver on ISS is like running nuclear reactor to charge a phone. This should be like everyday normal routine thing not worth superepic movie. Save ISS better.
The benefits of [this] space station is a natural outcrop of previous generations of space stations; an extension of the human environment into the solar system and beyond. From the vantage point of space we can see the whole world; a perspective we cannot get from Earth. As we prepare to launch the James Webb Observatory, the replacement for Hubble, what will replace the International Space Station? Will the next space station be in a higher orbit? Will it be built to last for about 50 to 100 years, and not take forever to build? Will we be able to have an ship yard attached to the International Space Complex (the Buzz Aldrin Space Complex). We want to travel throughout the solar system gathering rocks, but there are no plans for humans to actually live in space; longer than six months out of the year.
Nice to see that someone is advocating for “personal homing beacons” This system is just a precursor to a real time tracking system for every human on earth.
great production value on this video!
Well, they’ve succeeded in blowing a very loud, expensive trumpet haven’t they? They didn’t need the ISS for that, it’s really very basic GPS with some extra radio signals isn’t it. Blindingly obvious I would have thought. Satellites tracking ships, whatever next? The ships have to have it switched on of course, easy to forget, easy to damage, easy to sabotage. This is how they fool the public into handing over billions from their govts to funding a very expensive toy for the elite to play with.
