NASA officials at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida announced Sept. 16 the selection of Boeing and SpaceX to develop and certify crew transportation systems that will transport U.S. astronaut crews from American soil to and from the International Space Station. Participants in the announcement included NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, Kennedy Director Bob Cabana, Commercial Crew Program Manager Kathy Lueders, and Astronaut Mike Fincke.

Well, Russian politics being as it is right now, its the best thing that can happen to NASA. I think its about time the American government invested there money in an alternative taxi service. Go America!!.
That microphone-on-a-long-stick during the Q&A is hilarious, but a clever idea. : )
This is truly amazing. Once again the most expensive option (Boeing) is chosen. They get over 4 billion for what?? SpaceX is order of magnitude more innovative, groundbreaking and it is cool! Dream Chaser is also better than Boeing, perfect for LEO missions, less G’s, and lands on a runway… Politics is killing space exploration, and I hope people like Elon will win this battle, If he doesn’t get us to Mars within his lifetime, governments will delay that voyage until 2100’s. We need a new Space Race, back then we were at least going somewhere! Go SpaceX!!!
Who is servicing Bigelow aerospace these days? Able Dragon / other capsule to the inflatable habitat. With the abillity to join and expand a platform coupled with 3D, and 4D printing types and exzotic metamaterials in fillament. Great testbed for ideas and structural examination of space bore industries. What would it take to harvest “rocks” in space. Expel left over non viable in direction needed for velocity. Keep high risk capsules sealed and separate from living, observing labs. Suit up if entering testbed. La grange points “./?spelling/.?” are needed to be exploited, yes true. Congrats to the teams!
Coke or Pepsi. When Coke reduced to Great Value costs. Both Still tastes great.
Mike fincke rocks! he is the best american astronaut, not including Neil armstrong, Buzz aldrin and Michael collins, second fave is Chris hadfield, Michael foale in first place because im biased.
So, are the pilots gonna be NASA personnel or Boeing/SpaceX employees? Are there gonna be astronauts specifically certified to fly the Boeing/SpaceX craft, similar to how airplane pilots are certified to fly Boeing/Airbus/etc. planes?
Dinosaur stuff… ALL OF THIS!
The future of spaceflight can be summed up in a single word:
SABRE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SABRE_(rocket_engine)
america is the worst nation that only lives off warfare, lies and stolen goods/land, they aren’t the greated nation and they rely on russian rocket engines and tech, oh and reid wiseman (check his twitter btw its great) already ate lettuce in space you dumbass.…
Finally.… Was is worth it to cancel the Shuttle prematurely, and depend on other countries (Russia) to get to space? The answer is, of course it wasn’t. Reaching to that conclusion was not rocket science.
SpaceX gets $2.6 billion (for a more capable design), Boeing gets $4.2 billion (60% more!) — I bet the difference goes to their lobbyists.
shouldnt they be focusing on ways to combat climate change instead of space fight? i mean its NASA for petes sake! they know more about earth and the surrounding space than anyone else!
SpaceXC commercial flights.
If you land on Mars some day please, PLEASE DO NOT PLACE THE AMERICAN FLAG ON THAT PLANET, It’s ridiculous, irrelevant, and meaningless. If a flag has to be put on that planet it has to be the Planet Earth’s Flag, a symbol or something that represents every human, animal and form of life on earth or earth itself.
Please NASA don’t screw up once you get there, please i’m begging you =(
Just what Boeing needs.…. even more corporate welfare.
God Bless America,Don’t give our Technology know how to anybody. We Must show our strength of Science & Technology.
Peace
SpaeceX is way ahead of Boeing, NASA should’ve gave the bigger portion to Space X who is way beyond in terms of technical achievements in the shortest amount of time. Boeing’s space capsule is a joke and they still need to crash land basically which uses parachutes in an outdated format, nothing new… Let’s give the extra money to the company that is going to take us to Mars lets get SpaceX the financial head room they deserve. Elon has a vision and he gets things done, with his involvement in Solar and battery technology SpaceX will be a leader & the rest will be playing a catch-up..
And there goes dream chaser… im sure there was a good reason for that but, WHY!?
Better start saving money from now and expect I’ll be able to pay for my orbital flight before my life ends.
I am loving this change about time +1 nasa
The Dream Chaser got (a little bit) late.
This guy made some really awkward joke attempts… LOL
This guy made some really awkward joke attempts… LOL
SpaceX definitely deserved it. I don’t think Boeing deserved it at all, especially not for almost double the amount SpaceX got. Boeing’s design is a step backwards since it doesn’t have a controlled landing like SpaceX and Sierra Nevada’s do. Sierra Nevada should have been given a chance at this. It should have been Boeing getting 1.5 Billion with the other two getting 2.6 Billion just for trying to advance the technology.
America gives every nation of the world, where there is disastrous, cyclone or war victim.America give the fruitful results of science & technology of it’s medical treatment all over the world.Show such as country who gives such facilities to other nation of the world.God Bless America.,
works for nasa, says “an historic” .…. smh.…..
I think they should all get some money or at least that one company with the dreamchaser space plane should start doing private spaceflights.
Is that an illuminati ring you got there Mr Charles Bolden?
As soon as I heard ‘greatest nation on Earth doesn’t need anybody else’ I switched off. How about we ALL work towards it. I understand he refers chiefly to Russia but still. Greatest Nation on Earth is very patronising to others. Before anybody complains yes I understand why he says this.
Unfortunately Obama has rewind NASA and the’ Administrator ” is a Joke ‚yeah he was an astronaut but ‚he is clueless ‚I think Space X should go it alone with out nasa. to avoid nasa’s failures
Is the SpaceX Dragon V2 going to land vertically on land using the Super Draco engines? If so why does it show the clip of it landing in the water?
Mankind has conquered space, there is no limit and the younger generation need to encourage the study of science, mathematics, physics, biology, geology, chemistry, cosmology and anthropology to overcome the changes of the times and the fact
SpaceX creates tries out new technology for their spacecraft and has their own rocket. Boeing goes for the same old spacecraft. SpaceX gets 2.6 billion dollars. Boeing gets 4.2 billion dollars. SpaceX plans to colonize Mars. Boeing so far has 5 seats in their small contained capsule. Huh. Well then.
Аз мисля АМЕРИКА Е водеща страна в света, и ако някой ден кацне на Марс. то трябва Американското знаме бъде поставено там. Как ли бихте коментирали?…
Sending humans to space is a astronomical(pun) waste of money, robots do a great job. And for the haters, who launches the vehicles — yeah it’s robots.
Absolutely Beautiful Thanks so much and Congratulations to all Involved.Very much Enjoyed.Deb
when we look back at the colonization of mars it will be SpaceX.
PROGRESS… HEY NASA, IT’S BEEN ALMOST 4 YEARS NOW… STILL NO ASTRONAUTS BOOSTING TO THE ISS.… COM’ON. I THINK ELON SHOULD RUN NASA.
Spacex can do it faster and cheaper than Boeing ever could. Go SpaceX.
Crew dragon is more comfortable than any rocket
