The journey to Mars begins at NASA – and it ends at Boeing and Lockheed Martin, ATK and ULA. Some people say we can learn from our mistakes, and NASA has taken a deep long look at the billions and billions spent on the Shuttle, and the billions and billions spent on the ISS, and how they brought us closer to Mars, and NASA decided to continue to take our dreams, hopes and money, and send them into the unfathomable darkness of space and the vast pockets of the aerospace industry, where they will vanish never to be seen again. An American success story, and we definitely need more of it.
My dream game is : Start off in a rocket with other astronauts. Heading to mars for samples. Each astronaut chooses what role do they take (pilot, the guy who sets up the camp, etc)The journey in the game takes 10 minutes Then when you buy the required stuff you can go to other planets, collect samples and go back to Earth. When time passes you’ll go to alpha centauri via a wormhole near saturn looking for habitable planets. This game can be played with online 😀
I am feeling so excited about this. I always wanted to become astronaut and researched what I had to do to become one. I calculated that it would take me around 8 years to finish university on a science (perhaps astrobiology). then it would take me 2–3 years to become a jet pilot and then 5 years to train as an astronaut. In total this would take me 16 years. I am currently in 9th at 15 years of age and by 2030 I would be 31 years old which is an ideal age to become an astronaut.
I want to be one of the first few to set foot on mars, I know we have already explored mars quite a bit with robots and rovers but sending humans to mars is different, in a way its symbolic of our natural urge of exploration and curiosity, as Carl Sagan once said: “we began as wanderers and we are wanderers still.”
The only problem is I am currently living in Australia. ***** What do I need to do in order to be in the orion crew? what courses should I take? what HSC/SAT scores do I have to achieve?
They are ready to send people to Mars in less than 10 years. Instead, it’ll take 25! years, IF the (thanks) obama plan goes well. All the in-between projects, are waste of money and time. But you see… it is also very good new$ for the contractor$, the companie$, and the shareholder$. So, lets send more and more remote controled toys and see if lentils grow in space for the nth time… 2040 is around the corner. NOT!
The first human who steps foot on mars will surely make the biggest step in human history! And he better be preparing his “first step quote” right now!
Should we not be looking into ways to get us back from Mars … first? Like uh, putting stuff there so we can go and build a planet platform for getting off of mars. You have to build a space station on the ground so you can get off of it!
When NASA would “put” a man back on the Moon? NASA astronauts are still being ferried to the ISS by the Russian space agency and those idiots are talking about flying to Mars using Orion.
How are you going to flight to Mars on that? It’s an analog of the Russian Progress‑M spacecraft that are used to re-supply the ISS. Russians do not trumpet about going to Mars having no ability to put a man on low Earth orbit.
Stop fooling people! Stop this pathetic boasting!
I don’t truly do not understand the new priorities here…and they makes little sense considering our past space efforts. For some reason, NASA seems to be tip-toeing around the obvious next step in space exploration. But it is NOT to visit an ASTEROID…Please! More development to get to Mars, in what, the next century at the rate of development, almost a years travel away, holds some promise for what, exactly, in our immediate future? The 800-pound gorilla in the room is the Moon…only 3‑days away and a helluva a lot cheaper to reach, of which holds mineral riches and the promise of new advances in space-based manufacturing and clean power generation. Our last half-century of space technology have all been approached with this one goal in mind; lunar colonization and utilization of lunar position and resources, as well as a stepping stone to the outer planets. For some reason this has suddenly become a great uncomfortable silence, ignored and plastered over with the other foolish and expensive missions with very little real potential for our real-world needs. I have a rather uncomfortable feeling the U.S. Government has been warned away from lunar occupation by the other countries that have publicly stated lunar colonization, exploration and exploitation is their next goal; Red China and Communist Russia. It is time for the United States shakes off this meek space presence, garner some real leadership with “the right stuff” and scrap all this useless foolishness and make plan to utilize our space capability to settle a real frontier, the Moon! If we do not…all is lost to us as a world-power.
I’m fairly angry at the fact that people still don’t think life exists beyond earth. It’s such an uneducated and ignorant thought to think. And to insist that there is no other life than here on earth is foolish and retarded.
i find that the NASA’s mission chief, of sending the orion into the moon, is over reacting by taking the decision to send an unmanned craft (orion). Why? The orion has been tested already and is fully operational to go ahead. Between 1969–1973 the manned crafts send into the moon were toys compare to the Orion spaceship. They should be more confident on themeselfs and take a more brave step, by sending an manned orion to the moon!!!!!
I don’t understand why the test flights are so far from each other in time. Apparently the next Orion mission will be in 2018; yet during the Apollo program there were at least 1 or 2 test flights each year. Kinda makes for an underwhelming “space age” to be following.
im 65 and won’t see any of this. at least i got to see mercury in elementary school, gemini in middle school. apollo in high school. apollo 8 the best.
Interesting how we’re able to get this advanced in space travel, yet NASA (and other private enterprises) have no problem spending billions of dollars for space exploration before addressing other problems on our planet first — such as disease and starvation, for example.
I think Orion is too small for a trip to Mars-the astronauts will go stir crazy in that cramped space. I think Starship is the best solution. NASA is thinking too small!
So ***** wants to give the Moon a moon of it’s own? That is… unusual.
Go humans!
Space x will beat you guys
Does an european have a chance to fly to Mars with NASA aswell? 🙂

How will Orion land on Mars since there’s no water? Will it have soft landing engines like Soyuz?

please consider my question.
Why come back? Just keep going and building.
God bless you United States. Love from India.

they should livestream the human landing on mars
I am so happy to be alive during all these great movements towards a beneficial future!
We need a moon base before a trip to mars.

WHY WILL IT TAKE ANOTHER 5/6YEARS?!?!
“curiosity tactical download lead engineer” must look great on a business card (:

Do they actually think there might be aliens on mars.
we’re on our way salute
we’re on our way salutes
I almost guarantee you that most of the people reading this comment will also see the time when humans stand on some moons of Jupiter 🙂
I’d say that would happen around 2060, with mars in 2030

NASA can only get to low earth orbit.
what happens to a fish in water in space???
maravilhoso espaço e o Trabalhos da nasa para bens Brasil
Yall been talking about this forever.
Long space missions will doubtless have to be all men. Women crews would have too much problem, it could jeopardize the mission.
hi nasa, why not create its own heat source on the planet Mars? by utilizing the existing light or other electrical source tools

not go to mar till 2030.
OK, but, correct me if I am wrong, but, isn’t it the moon, some how, a little bit closer than any asteroide…?
If you click on the purple channel icon on the left, you can see an ion thruster that can lift its power supply against earth’s gravity.…
Hi
NASA: SLS will be the most powerful rocket ever flown
Elon Musk: Hold my Starship
Nasa is like rockstar and SLS is like gta5
2021.
Anybody ever wonder what hallucinating without the help of drugs looks like? Just watch these Nasa videos. Holy balls.

Orion will never reach Mars, starship, however, will.
