At CES, Elio is showing its tiny Elio, a street-legal car with three wheels that gets over 80 miles to the gallon. We decided to take it for a spin through Vegas.

Better than the Reliant Robin.
Hey Joshua have they officially out in an engine that will be out into the production line? and if so does it actually go 80 mpg with that engine?
Seattle banned these types of cars a few years ago. They complained they were to low to the ground and was hard for other drivers to see you. That’s Seattle for you, weird stuff is normal and cool stuff gets outlawed.
Anyone else horrified at the prospect of having a side on collision with this car and having a wheel pop off like a cork? The right-off ability and general safety of this car is really on my nerves
see the sparks on right tire at 1:39
Really reminds me of Reliant Robin.…
oda dianteira deveria ser agregada a mesma carroceria e nao afastada ou melhor separada da carroceria do carro. atrapalha ate como um ponto de referencia em relacao ao retrovisor.
I would buy it…but I would have to do a engine swap with Hayabusa.
whats the spark at 1:40 :/ ?
Every now and then I search YouTube for the Elio car and find another video in which the release date has been set back yet again. It reminds me of another supposed miracle car, this one from the 1980s, that investors had sunk money into only to have the “company” make excuse after excuse for its delay until finally the feds raided the “factory” which was little more than warehouse with a handful of parts for a single vehicle. And the “woman” heading the company turned out to be a drag queen, no less. How long before the customers who put a down payment on an Elio get fed up with promises and demand their money back? I will believe the Elio is for real when I see consumers driving it on the streets.
I’m still worried the big 3 autos and electric car industry will do everything they can to bury the elio. imagine what it would be like for those other companies if this car exploded in popularity and sold millions? it would be a financial disaster for them. the price of the elio is so low, that even if it died on you after 2–3 years it wouldn’t be a huge financial disaster for the customer
This car will be a huge success if they can make the car for $6,800 and if it actually gets 80 + miles a gallon.
The steering is a little heavy, because there is no “power steering.”
i get the idea on paper but i don’t see it catching on. for me personally, if i can’t have a passenger or storage space, and i’m not very safe as i would be in a bigger car, i’d rather just have a motorcycle, which would also be easier to zip through traffic, better at accelerating and a million times cooler. yea i mean, in this you probably get AC, stereo, a roof over your head etc. but for all that, i’d just rather have my full sized car. at least then i can have passengers and a trunk. and it doesn’t look like this will be any more advantageous at parking or driving traffic the way a bike would. the only advantage is the gas mileage. 84 is impressive but you can get over 50 in bikes or cars nowadays. and how do you think a tiny 3 wheeled car is going to perform in the snow? i’d bet the farm that a regular car is always going to do better. for 6800 you can get a good used car or really good used motorcycle. i just don’t know who the target demographic is.
Am I the only one who noticed that spark at around 1:38?
I like how the guy I met at CES told me that I could go on the Carpool lane with just me in it is an instant seller. My 2003 BMW Z4 is a great car but this would be a great daily commuter.
When I sat in it felt totally normal, just weird not having a passenger next to me.
They have not show their actual production engine, The engine that is on the car was from other manufacture, so I’m not sure how to they get the over 80 miles from?
2016?
The right wheel sparks at 1:40!! Haha!
Put TESLA tech innit and 10k bucks, and im taking it 😉
I liked the awesome sparks on the right side front at 1:40. Is it the brake pads coming apart or what?
Had to watch the video several times before I saw the CIGARETTE laying in the road.
The steering isn’t heavy because of the wheel placement away from the body. It can be heavy for a myriad of reasons, but thats not one of them.
it does not have power steering
It’s not a car and it will never be produced. They just broke their promise (again) and pushed production out to 2016. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this scam.
Researched > It is classified as a motorcycle, so you need to get your motorcycle license to drive it.
It also uses the motorcycle classification to omit and skip all pollution gear.
Winter driving in the snow is not practical, and carrying cargo and other people is not possible.
An engine has not yet been chosen for it.
Will require larger storage space than a motorcycle.
However, it is SAFER than a motorcycle, and should advertize itself as such.
I will get is. Just put some rear camera, GPS etc. etc.
Isn’t this basically a trike with a roof?
damn do crazy amaricans
Dude you talked over the ambient the whole time. I got like 3 seconds of engine sound or any real experience of the car. Why didn’t you just type it out??==»> I’m Totally out.
sparks at 1:39
These engines look exactly like the little throttle body injected engines in the early 90s geo metro. Which was awesome on gas. Run forever if you’ll just change the oil.
what was the spark at 1:40?
I like it a lot but compared to an Aptera, it looks like a box. Then again, the aptera was 3 X the price of this one. Only referring to Aptera because of the number of wheels .. 🙂
Steering is “heavy” because it doesn’t come with power steering… Jackass
first they said this vehicle would be out in 2014, but then it got delayed till 2015, is now 2015, and now they’re saying 2016. At this rate the vehicle is Just vaporware. As much as I would like to see this vehicle succeed I don’t see it.
I’ll probably buy this. BTW what happedn at 1:40?
Steering is heavy because it doesn’t have power steering
doubt you could drive it on a windy day & a windy day in winter no a chance it is to light
I’m already on the list, can’t wait for this shit.
Umm, where the wheels are doesn’t affect steering weight you muppet, this car isn’t using power assist.
Can’t wait to see people race this thing
I cant wait for this to come out
Do the math people, how much money you will save on a yearly basis. Take into account a smaller car payment(Google auto loan calculator), smaller insurance bill, and practically 20 a month in gas. After that you let me know if it doesnt make sense.…. After a couple of years you would have saved so much money that the car actually pays for itself. I have a 2015 Honda accord lease, and by the time my 3 year term is over i would have payed 14k and ill be without a car. A Car is the worst investment. Invest in your house.
should have used Ford 1.0 ecoboost engine…
Looks like they increased the cost from $6,800 to $7,450 base. We’ll see how much it ends up being when they actually release it. I’m betting at least $10,000.
Edit: Looking further into their website, they add on well over $1,000 to the price if you want an automatic transmission (manual is their default).
No worries though; if you pay them $1,000 today, you can “reserve yours now”!
Best feature- women cant ride in the passenger seat.…..mgtow
