I don’t get it. I thought this was weak­er than last year, prob­a­bly because the big titles peo­ple had been talk­ing about weren’t announced, like Red Dead 2 or a new Metroid game. (that isn’t Fed­er­a­tion Kid Force)

“Bring­ing more women to game con­ven­tions” seems like your forc­ing them there. We are hap­py if they come — the more , the mer­ri­er. But this act of over­do­ing fem­i­nism in unre­lat­ed and frankly use­less areas like gam­ing (ahem.. Fem­i­nism Fre­quen­cy) instead of fight­ing for equal­i­ty is just plain mis­un­der­stand­ing the con­cept of gen­der equality.

Can these hip­sters get more up their own ass about gen­der pol­i­tics? Nobody fuck­ing cares, you can play as a women in a lot of games already but as it turns out the tar­get audi­ence for games isn’t women. Most women still view video games and peo­ple who play them as fat, wiz­ard, neck beards and have nev­er picked up a con­troller in their life. This fact isn’t good or bad, it just is and it’s a real­i­ty of the indus­try and adding more women to games isn’t going to change that. Why peo­ple feel the need to cram in a female pro­tag­o­nist to please peo­ple who aren’t going to buy them is beyond me. Nobody gives a shit about your Marx­ist beliefs out­side of your own hip­ster news echo cham­ber and rad­i­cal tum­blr SJWs that don’t even play games. It’s also pret­ty clear the Verge’s audi­ence does­n’t want to hear your extrem­ist opin­ions on gen­der pol­i­tics either.

There are female gamers and you can play as a female now in games? Talk about ignor­ing his­to­ry to push a nar­ra­tive.  Some of my favourite games in the god damn 90’s had female leads. But I was blind to the gen­der because they were good games. It takes a mod­ern kind of nar­cis­sism to see women in games as a fea­ture! Good job Verge.
