Dur­ing a Mar. 4 news brief­ing at NASA’s John­son Space Cen­ter in Hous­ton, mem­bers of the agency’s sci­ence com­mu­ni­ty dis­cussed the research con­duct­ed with the help of astro­naut Scott Kel­ly of NASA and cos­mo­naut Mikhail Kornienko of Roscos­mos, on their recent­ly con­clud­ed year-long mis­sion aboard the Inter­na­tion­al Space Sta­tion. More than 400 exper­i­ments took place dur­ing their expe­di­tion that will help sci­en­tists bet­ter under­stand how the human body reacts and adapts to long-dura­tion space­flight. That knowl­edge will play a crit­i­cal role in future NASA mis­sions deep­er into the solar sys­tem and on the Jour­ney to Mars.
