Police are going after Android’s location data
Android,Google,Privacy,tracking,advertising,location history,Google Timeline,iPhone
A little-known feature in Android phones is collecting data on where you are. That data is mostly used for marketing, but a Verge investigation found police are also trying to use it to place suspects at the scene of a crime.

It doesn’t need Location Service (GPS) to be ON, and there are other personal uses of this feature. Check out my explanation here: http://qr.ae/83O95Z
when you open the app it says: “only you can see your timeline”
so if they are selling that data to companies, they are clearly breaking their own rule
im comfortable with google assisting police with serious crime investigations.
iPhones sounding better and better.
Everyone is saying, “just turn it off”…how about don’t commit a crime hahah. I have no problem with the way Google uses it, it can make my life more convenient. This is only a concern for people planning to commit a crime.
iOS absolutely has a feature that tracks everywhere you go. we had to turn it off on my wife’s phone and if I remember it was very very well hidden. there is a video around here about it and how to turn it off.
So what you’re trying to say is that police can track us if we use an android phone with GPS enabled…Seriously, did Verge not even consider the fundamentals of tracking cell phones? They must have their head so far up Apple’s ass they can’t even realize that ALL phones can be traced.
The only thing you had to say it’s how to turn it off. It’s not that hard
This also brings up the fact that just because the person was in the general area of the crime, doesn’t mean that they actually committed the crime. This method should not be used solely, it should always be used to corroborate with other evidence such as, a support evidence to prove a crime or to prove an alibi. So it may also work in one’s favor. Depends on how much evidence is stacked up against a person.
Framing a person would also be easily done:
1. Plant evidence against innocent person
2. Steal innocent person’s phone
3. Commit crime with the phone at location
4. Bring innocent person’s phone back
5. Police finds phony evidence or unknown tip against innocent person
6. Obtains data from google to prove phone location
7. Innocent person goes to jail
So yeah, it kind of sucks when evidence like this can have multiple interpretation.
“And that record on iPhone just doesn’t exist”
Hahaha
A quote from Apple website:
Frequent Locations: To learn places that are significant to you, your iOS device will keep track of places you have recently been, as well as how often and when you visited them. (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203033)
Apply cold water to the burn area
Actually you can access location history on IOS.… and here’s how to do it
http://www.iclarified.com/36198/how-to-view-the-location-history-of-your-iphone
Moral of the story is don’t rob banks.…
so if you didn’t do the crime, you can prove you’re innocence
This is an opt-in feature based on my experience.
Yesterday I set up my S7 and during setup it was asking me if I want this feature (Location History) enabled or not — of course I clicked no. Checked today in the settings, it is still set to no and also no data is available.
You can only blame the users who are not reading anything during the setup and just clicking “yes, yes, sure I agree whatever just let me use my new gadget already” and then complaining that they are being “monitored without their knowledge”.…
And as far as I know, this feature is also available on the iPhones.
iOS does have Location history baked inside the OS.
Settings > Location Services > System Services > Frequent Locations > History
Google Maps also saves history location on an iOS device

Again, a prime example of why I don’t use android.
my iPhone has a built in locations history right under a vague name in settings. shouldn’t the verge knows about this?
im sure police will ask the network telco operator to track the suspect SIM Card. Telco can do that..
iPhone’s Location Data:
• Frequent Locations: To learn places that are significant to you, your iOS device will keep track of places you have recently been, as well as how often and when you visited them. This data is kept solely on your device and won’t be sent to Apple without your consent. It will be used to provide you with personalized services, such as predictive traffic routing.
• Location-Based iAds: Your iPhone will send your location, including travel speed and direction, to Apple to provide you with geographically relevant iAds.

Do u work for Apple?? gosshh!!!
Perhaps bank robbers will switch from Android to IOS.😱🔛😃
So if I rob something will they still show me ads?
something similar defiantly exists in iOS
Watch this TED Talk by Malte Spitz, carriers already have all the information the police would need.
https://www.ted.com/talks/malte_spitz_your_phone_company_is_watching?language=en
So as long as you are using a SIM card that connects to carrier antennas,
they know where you are in real time, the GPS data is just added bonus.
So basically… they’re trying to help criminals by hinting at them to get an iphone
The verge actually implying that all Android users are actually criminals just like a bank robber who should switch to an iPhone and also using an Android is as dumb as robbing a bank.
android spyware ftw!
so please make the android more and more for every person for peace
wanna commit a crime?
buy a iPhone
It’s simple if you aren’t a criminal use an android. If you thing you might become a criminal in the next 2 years buy an iPhone.
I trust android users a lot more now.
This video is misleading
I haven’t done anything wrong in the past.…let me see.…
oh IDK like never?
so I don’t have a problem with police tracking my record
Nice try this an’t gonna stop people from using or buying Iphone.…. it just go by saying Donald Trump is the one who wrote Desiigner verse on his xxl 2016 freshman cyphers, his fans will still worship him
There is an alternative to mobile tracking options for those who wants to remotely access a smartphone, track and monitor a cellphone with just the phone number, keep track of your kids, cars and employees etc etc.… services with globally info@kenhowardpi. com, top notch inv. company.
