A mission to Mars will last two to three years. What psychological challenges will astronauts face when spending so long in space? We talked to former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, who spent a year on the International Space Station, to find out.

I want to know what he was paid for that year
The Astronauts should bring a hardrive with millions of movies and video games for the 3 year voyage
0:34 Yeah maybe a mission to Mars will last 2 to 3 years. But in that time the astronauts won’t be in micro gravity the hole time! In takes around 6 Months or so to get to Mars. Then you have gravity back! Not as much as on Earth but a good amount! Then 6 Months return to Earth. So astronauts won’t be in micro gravity for 2 or 3 years!
Yup it will have impact. But 7monrhs later… If you hit Mars properly, you would come to Bahamas baby 😀 and depression would go away so fast… Because we know about Mars a lot 😀
They should pick people with Asperger’s syndrome. They couldn’t care less about those worthless emotions. They’re interested in productivity and getting the job done in the most efficient manner. Assigning obnoxious yanks to such mission is a guaranteed disaster.
hi
Wow the engrish
It does not take 2–3 years to reach Mars. It takes 6 months. No idea where “2–3 years in micro gravity” comes from.
mic above her head 3:34
This guy has always maintained that — ” He does not want justone way trip to Mars ” ; he does knw some secrets !!
Think about living on a submarine, confined space with others. Living with the same people for 12 months, eating the same food, breathing the same artificial air and drinking water made from urine. This all sounds terrible, I say wait unit we can make the Star Ship Enterprise and do it in style at least submarines have gourmet chefs. If boredom and depression doesn’t kill you your crewman might. Oh I forgot about cosmic radiation and micro gravity etc.….….….….
I don’t know how he did it tbh
I’d love to go to the ISS for a couple of days, but a year? No thanks. I think it takes a special kind of person to do that without cracking up.
Now imagine that Mother Earth is now inhabitable after going to Mars.
The “P” is SILENT in Psychology…
🎇🤔, It actually sounds like we need a zero tolerance drug free zone up there, yet we should brew some space beer too 🏜️✨🔧🐉🤫🇺🇸🍍🍻
I like it just fine here on earth
Maybe someone needs to be in there longer 15 months in space could it work? Yet they say takes 7 months to get so would take them.7 months to get back? Ain’t gonna happen yet
Some prisoners have spent 30 years in solitary confinement in a room 8 feet by 6 feet… perspective folks… But Kelly seems a great guy..

Nope, not for me. I get home sick
Quarantine 2020
With current technology it is long journey
Haldol is same stuff they use on schizophrenics
Scott’s Kelly is the perfect example of why we need a rotating space station
“NAZA”
some people kinda gonna enjoy it if you are really into bondage
Seeing the Earth from a Martian perspective (as a tiny speck of light) would most likely feel like you’ve died, or create a state of indescribable panic, knowing that you just ruined your only real life, to spend on a dead planet with 1% air pressure, freezing and is completely radioactive. You would hate yourself for making such a trip.
You won’t spend 2 years in “microgravity” because about a year or more of that time will be spent in 38% gravity on Mars. “Micro-gravity” is zero‑G.
Scott Kelly LOOKS VERY SHIFTY
