At the Baikonur Cos­mod­rome in Kaza­khstan, Expe­di­tion 49–50 Soyuz Com­man­der Sergey Ryzhikov and Flight Engi­neer Andrey Borisenko of Roscos­mos and Flight Engi­neer Shane Kim­brough of NASA along with their back­ups, Alexan­der Mis­urkin and Niko­lai Tikhonov of Roscos­mos and Flight Engi­neer Mark Vande Hei of NASA par­tic­i­pat­ed in a vari­ety of activ­i­ties as they pre­pared for the launch of Kim­brough, Ryzhikov and Borisenko Oct. 19, on the Soyuz MS-02 space­craft for a five-month mis­sion to the Inter­na­tion­al Space Station.
