The new MacBook Pro — and the new iPhone 7 — are definitely improved over their predecessors, but they’re lacking really basic stuff, like USB ports and a headphone jack.

How about USBC to lightning’ cable
My next laptop is gonna be a Lenovo Carbon X1 because of this nonsense.
I’m watching this video on a 2011 MacBook Pro…
And that awful butterfly keyboard.
Unibody MacBook Pro = no dongles, but very heavy and not great for someone who has back pain or scoliosis
2010–2017 MacBook Air = has the necessary ports, pretty light, and you don’t need dongles!
2012–2015 Retina MacBook Pro = not as bulky as the Unibody, still has the necessary ports, lighter than a Unibody, and you don’t need dongles!
Current MacBook Line = very light, great for someone who has scoliosis, but WELCOME TO DONGLE CITY!
In conclusion, if you want a light MacBook without having to buy every dongle out there, just get the older Retina MacBook Pro or the older MacBook Air with enough storage, no dongles, and it will not make you back hurt even more.
Two words — Super Hub
Jut bought a new 2020 MacBook Air for my university studies and I only need 1 adapter — my Super Hub. 2 x USB A (“regular”) ports, an SD card reader and even an HDMI port on just 1 adapter, and it only cost about £20 — Apple sells a similar one for 3x this amount. Sure having the ports would be easier but with a super hub you can have the super thin machine and the biggest drawback becomes smaller
Nice work. Someone had to say it.
If nobody ever upgrades, then…
Apple wouldn’t be as filthy rich, natural resources wouldn’t deplete, it would need less energy (for all the making of stuff) and landfills would grow a bit slower…
finally my MacBook was fixed successful by deztoolz on Instagram he is reliable and kind he is the best of the best
O people of the past.…they removed the chargers from the box
The perfect middle ground is the 2015 macbook pro and the iphone 6s at this time but now you need dongles for most apple products that id reccommend
Four years later and this is not much an issue. I got used to advancements real quick with the first MacBook with only one port. Data transfer between phone, iPad and Mac? iCloud. Music? Wireless headphones. Charging? Wireless charger. Use at the same time as charging? I typically got all day battery life. Generally not an issue. Each medium has its pros and cons :p
3,700 Apple employees on the MacPro team don’t like this video. Just like everything that happened in 2016–2020, we are now finally returning to the good old days. If they’d only add USB‑C for older items I’d be smitten. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching from afar as all my colleagues dingle their dongles all over the place for the last 4 years 🙂
Fun fact: a wireless charger costs less than the dongle ‚so does the Usb‑C to lightning
I miss this reviewer. Sad she left The Verge years ago
I miss her and her creative videos :((( I’ve not seen her in any new videos of The Verge
Coming from 2021 to tell you should do more of this kinds of videos… I loved Versus!
It’s 2021… This is still relevant! :/ I bought my MacBook pro 2018 to give it a try, didn’t used a year… I switch to a razer blade stealth for ports. Best decision I ever made! I even bought the best hub and nothing it’s better then connecting directly to the laptop’s motherboard
Yall know only one adapter hub is necessary right? An 8‑in-one or something. And that’s only until the future occurs, which isn’t too long now.
Are are you I miss you 😢
you cant say about this anymore usb c is the future and apple made it real
