Chevy Bolt review: an affordable long-range electric car you can buy now

The Chevy Bolt is a milestone for electric cars: it’s the first one that promises long range at an affordable price. And it beat Tesla to the punch, unlike the forthcoming Model 3, the Bolt is available to purchase right now. But living with an electric car in 2017 still isn’t as easy as one might hope.

why not only one option includes everything
its not 100% American built , parts from all around the world
its American so its not reliable
40K is too much , electric should be cheaper , this car worth not more then 15k
lets see in 2020 ‑what we get
Dan knew that Golden Corral was closed and went anyway. #FakeNews media sites again.
Good criticism on the idea of electric cars. Living in a northern state or a province like I do you also have to take in to account that cold in winter can cut battery storage in half due to what ever cold does to battery storage in cold weather. So this s for city folks with too much money or a city driver who needs a Daly driver to and from work. It could be a perfect car. Price needs to come down.
Who wants anything made by Chevy?!
The bolt is NOT inexpensive
Ok he left a garage then said he didn’t know where he would charge it. STAGED anyone! Over 200k you don’t charge everyday.
40 hours! For 120vac?!! Seriously?
Fool. I definitely would purchase a Bolt. They do have charging stations at Thruway stops. Plus I have the plug 🔌 share app. More and more charging stations are popping up. And yes, have ridden in a Tesla, twice. That is why I love electric vehicles, and feel the future is here NOW.
OMG HE SOUNDS LIME CARLOS LAGO FROM MOTOR TREND
lmao how much did Chevy pay you to do this video
Electric is the future. Rather just having to charge these cars at a charging station, you would think the developers would have come up with a way to charge the batteries while driving, it can’t be that hard!
That price is insane. Just buy a used Volt.
I wish every gas (ICE) car youtube review spent half their time discussing the downsides with burning fossil fuels… Review the car, not the current charging infrastructure. We know enough about that already!!
It hurts watch this and living out of USA thinking how much time will take us to be able to drive electrics cars.
😢
When you “beta test” a Tesla, aren’t you really “alpha testing” it? There are so many videos and blog entries on line of people who have had multiple failures on the Tesla Model S and Model X. I’d be curious to see the defect rate of the Tesla Model 3 vs. the Chevy Bolt. To it’s credit, Tesla buyers, even those with multiple failures, love their cars and love the service Tesla provides in fixing their engineering deficiencies. Based upon my observation of the Chevy stealerships, I don’t have any great hope Chevy will treat customers quite as well.
Can u install a charger out on side of your house or does the charger have to be in doors I would consider buying one when I get the money but don’t have a garage 😭😭😭😭😡😡😡😡😡
Once it’s possible to drive to every corner of Canada while being able to conveniently find a supercharging station for any type of EV then I will consider buying an electric car. No point right now unless I want to massively inconvenience myself.
“Slave to the gauge” is a funny term you just made up. But it’s true. If you drive an ICE car, you are a slave to the gauge. Every 400km or so, you have to make your way to your friendly neighborhood gas station and leave $86 lighter. Oh, and the price of fuel varies based on… something? So really, you just pull your pants down and hope for the best.
Thanks for posting though. It’s funny to listen to a young guy drive around and sound like an old man. “You kids get your electric doohickey off my lawn!”
Well I think its bullshit you can buy it even today, just TRY it.….…
Your last line reveals you to be nothing more than another brand snob. I happen to think Teslas are pretty cool, but they are not without fault. At $35–40k I will take a useful hatchback backed by an established dealership network over a Tesla sedan which as a brand is known for having some pretty serious build quality issues for the first year or two, not to mention and a limited number of service/repair centers. Plus the model 3’s lack of a center gauge display or at least a proper color HUD is no go for me, and most car enthusiasts.🙅♂️
Cool car! Now change the price tag to $25000 and I”ll get one. 🙂
Terrible review!
Actually, a good looking car.
no one car is better than BYD car
ma man
American cars are so socks
I’m shocked what companies call “affordable” these days.
buy today? 2017 only about 600 pieces comes to Germany and in Swiss you have to wait until middle 2018!
We do not forget that it was GM who crushed the EV1! No thanks, not for me …
“Don’t become a slave to the guage.” I love that.
Thanks for your very fair review. I watched it twice: once when I was under the impression that it was made by Chevy and again after I did some research and found out that it is actually made by LG for GM. I actually feel more positive about it knowing it is an LG product — should hold up about as well as my fridge did.
Too bad this is an effort to be an “Also ran” because it could have a lot of potential for some people due to its range. But for those with range anxiety, why wouldn’t you consider a nice hybrid — there are more of them coming out every day — some with pretty respectable EV-only range. Even the Lincoln, a luxury car, costs less than this Bolt. This review was a little over 6 minutes, but there is now a Tesla Mod 3 review that is over an hour. You should at least see it before you start casting aspersions on the fans of this vehicle. Knowledge = power yada yada yada…
It seems like Dan Seifert was looking for ways to trash this car. He probably spent half the video talking about range anxiety, but only a few seconds mentioning that if you own an electric car, you’ll probably need a home charger. He admits that this problem exists with all electric cars, but he’d own a Tesla because it’s a Tesla and not a Chevy. He demonstrates carrying capacity by laying a stroller flat. He complains about the touchscreen because it’s resistive (Oh, the horror!), but says nothing about the interface. He says almost nothing about how the car drives (it drives like a regular car and has good acceleration).
Boo… When you have level 2 at home, range anxiety goes away. Reviewer couldn’t place himself there and simply harped on his situation. We just bought a Bolt in Colorado. Took it 300 miles the next day. Entirely free fuel for whole trip. Plugshare app works well. No maintenance. No carbon fuel if you have solar on your roof. Boo.
The Bolt is not surrounded by a cult. Good.
I drive a Chevy Volt which gives us between 32 and 50 miles per charge, depending on the time of year. We have a Level 1 charger, and never burn gas. It gets my wife and me both to and from work with an average commute, plus shopping and various appointments. If you drive more than average, get something like the Bolt and have a Level 2 charger installed. When you want to go on a long road trip, just plan it ahead of time and use fast chargers. Electric vehicles ARE suitable for the majority of people. And they’re not beta — they’ve been around as long as gas vehicles.
Model 3 was never delayed, any other Tesla fans? 😅 and for this price you can buy a model X so…
chevy ev poop box is what it looks like.
The difference is super chargers
I mean everyone is comparing the GM Bolt to the Tesla Model 3 basic that is not out or available to match or compare… So wait for the standard Tesla 35K Model 3 then.. Not the Model 3++ and $50K+
Right now the biggest thing holding back EVs in the US is charging infrastructure. The Bolt is a cool car but I could barely make it out of my state with the 200+ mi range. There is currently no way for me to take a long road trip because there are no fast chargers available near me.
I did it with Avasva plans.
Uhm..the $35,000 base model 3 is most certainly delayed…2 years delayed to be exact and counting!
But Tesla fanboys only can afford the inexpensive $49,000 version.
But wait..the $78,000 AWD with extra fast goodies has just been announced..
Lets get real people…
The Bolt kicked the Tesla down the road almost 2 years ago…
Add the fact that the federal tax credit will begin phasing out for Tesla probably next quarter and the cost comparison between a now available Bolt and a not available $35,000 model 3 is laughable…
The worst EV review I have ever watched.Did Exxon pay you? Your review is so full of mis truth I thought Trump was talking to me.
At the time of this video, I would need multiple hands to count the electric vehicles available. LOL
