Guess again, the art of cat­tle ranch­ing came to the Iber­ian penin­su­la from Minoan Greece in the Bronze age. The Minoans invent­ed bull­fight­ing or in their case leap­ing, and must have brought the art direct­ly or from oth­er Greek colonists or traders to Spain. Look at the Ancient Palaces at Knos­sos, youll find some very famil­iar scenes of bulls and men. Thats where we get the tale of the Minotaur.

This is very inac­cu­rate they were NOT span­ish they were Mex­i­can. The span­ish horse­man that arrived were NOT Vaque­ros . Mex­i­cans taught Amer­i­cans how to use vaque­ro gear etc.. The chaps, las­so, Mex­i­can som­brero, boots and rodeo like bull rid­ing is Mex­i­can cul­ture. The span­ish only brought their cat­tle ranch­ing skills and horse­man­ship but the Vaquero/Cowboy today is pure­ly of Mex­i­can ori­gin. Mex­i­can are NOT span­ish. Yes just like Amer­i­cans have eng­lish ances­try we Mex­i­cans have Span­ish ances­try how­ev­er vaque­ros are not from Spain and the term vaque­ro is a Mex­i­can word. Horse­man are dif­fer­ent than vaqueros/cowboys. All of europe had horse­man. By the time Amer­i­cans were mov­ing to Texas they met Mex­i­cans NOT spaniards. This is a white wash­ing of history(RACIST IMO) so that Amer­i­cans dont have to admt that they just copied Mex­i­cans and stole the land of the Orig­i­nal cow­boys. Absolute­ly appalling. There is some con­fu­sion here and im not sur­prised since Amer­i­ca has always had this racial under­tone when ref­er­enc­ing the ori­gins of any­thing. First of all what are Mex­i­cans chopped liv­er??? Vaque­ros are Mex­i­can NOT span­ish. They were called span­ish horse­man which is hard­ly unique to Spain, horse­man are found almost in every coun­try in europe actu­al­ly any place that had hors­es had horse­man NOT Vaque­ros. The vaque­ro took 200–300 years to form in Mex­i­co through inno­va­tion by that time They were Mex­i­can NOT span­ish any­more. Mex­i­cans taught Amer­i­cans the Vaque­ro ways NOT span­ish. The white wash­ing or euro­pean wash­ing of Mex­i­can tradition/culture is egre­gious. This false nar­ra­tive of his­to­ry is ridicu­lous and kind of racist. Mex­i­cans invent­ed the las­so, chaps, rodeo etc and it is a pri­mal part of our iden­ti­ty through music and movies. Amer­i­cans and oth­er world­wide adopt­ed the cow­boy fashion/techniques. The Vaque­ro was influ­enced by the span­ish horse­man due to the euro­pean eques­tri­an­ism but it is not from Spain its ori­gin is from Mexico.
