what about those cameras from oppo and gionee which makes a 50 megapixels photo from 13 megapixel sensor..
I love this series, thank you Garry.
Too bad you could not ccover the Zenfone Zoom’s setup which offers real zooming with some sort of periscope system if I’m not mistaken.
Don’t you love that Oneplus 5 in the background does not have optical image stabilization as Gary talks optical image stabilization?
Get to the point Gary.…
This doesn’t need to be a 7 minute video…
How Bokeh works?
I’d appreciate it if you could make another “gary explains” video on dual lens setup used by huawei
How does the asus zenfone 3x optical zoom work?
You aré the Best reviewer of tecnology in YouTube !👏🏻
Gary you are the education DON.
thanks for explaining…🙃
Gary dropping’ knowledge as usual.
best thing in this channel TBH.
good video!
Gary should explain everything.….everything lol
So happy you persisted in doing this in spite of all the early hate against you Gary. I’ve always thought these videos were amazing.
best explaination on YouTube
i love my samsung galaxy k zoom with 10x optical zoom
My old Sony phone had a camera that when zooming in or focusing would make a sound with the camera. I believe it didn’t have a fixed focal point but rather actual optical zoom
my biggest frustration of smartphone camera’s is not having optical zoom.
At one point there was a debate if more pixels really are better. And I always supported more pixels just because it gives you the possibility to actually zoom a bit and keep the object sharp. Now with my 12 MP camera of the htc 10 I really miss that. I got used to taking pictures with mij Xperia compact Z3 and keep being dissapionted that even object a meter of 10 away from me are far from sharp.
do more of these on cameras Gary u explain so well 🙂
With a couple exceptions from past smartphone generations:

While what you have said Gary is mostly true there are a few phones that do not actually fall into exactly what you have said. The Nikon Coolpix S800c for example while technically more a point and shoot camera than phone but it was running full Android and so I believe could have made VOIP/Skype etc calls at least if you used a Bluetooth headset. I also thought there was a Sony phone but I can’t see to find it. I think I remember reading on AA a month or 2 ago that one of the unreleased models is going to offer true optical zoom by making a sort of periscope.
I could see in future that it may also be possible to use the High Res shot mode type technology used in some of the top Olympus cameras to offer more resolution in an image which then could be cropped with less noise etc. I guess in a way they are doing this to an extent now by combining the images from 2 cameras but doing sensor shifting I am sure to give a better result at least when there is nothing moving in the scene.
Quad camera setup needs to happen
1. black n white depth information sensor
2. the usual rgb sensor with 24mm focal length
3. 135 degree wide angle lens
4. 50mm zoom lens
I think Gary forgot the Oppo 5X phone, with 5 times optical zoom, no camera bump.
Thank you Garry, as usual a nice and detailed explanation that can be easily followed by any non-tech savvy
Can you explain how the camera system of the Tango ar works?
Tell me gary. What’s the best smartphone out there that has a better camera system which doesn’t overheat?
Hi Gary,
I use ASUS Zenfone Zoom that can do 3x Optical Zoom with a periscope mechanism.
Great explanation. I was so puzzled by manufacturer claims of having an optical zoom. Thanks!
very Impressed. You’ve taken me to school, and I am the better for it.
Video starts at 3:30
Is optical lens and optical zoom same please someone tell me..
It looks like the S9 Plus has real optical zoom (2x).
if its changing the camera how can my iphone seven use the same camera ?
1:42 Since the convergence angle changes when the focal length changes, a more accurate magnification ratio might be MR = (f1/f2)*(f2-dObj)/(f1-dObj) as derived from the Thin Lens Equation, instead of just f1/f2. Equivalently, MR = (f2/f1)*(f1-dImg)/(f2-dImg).
Gary stop it please 💦
Thanks for spending 3 minutes explaining something we already understand. We wouldn’t click on this if we didn’t.
Business Opportunity in Ruvol
I have invented a Board Game [still unpublished and not yet out in the market] that I believe is guaranteed to be as challenging and exciting as CHESS. I called it “RUVOL.”
It is my hope that one day Ruvol may surpass chess as the “Number One Board Game in the World.”
The weakness of chess is it always starts in fixed positions that the opening moves become “memorizable.” In fact, not a few have so mastered the moves that they can play against their opponents “blindfolded.” It is for this very reason that the great Bobby Fischer introduced his so-called “Fischer Random Chess,” where the starting position of the pieces is “randomized” to make the memorization of openings impracticable. Fortunately, it is also for this reason that I invented Ruvol where “every game” has been calculated to be a challenging one to play.
HOW IS RUVOL PLAYED and HOW YOU CAN MONETIZE IT?
I detailed everything in my YouTube video. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcqth0m3-R0
BIG MONEY POTENTIAL IN RUVOL!
It is worthwhile to note that the people who play chess will be the same people who will play Ruvol. In my Google search, I learned there are around 800 million chess players in the world. Even just a small percentage of these 800 million is good enough to earn big money from Ruvol either as an ONLINE GAME BUSINESS or as a PHYSICAL PRODUCT DISTRIBUTOR.

Thanks and God bless!

I got my answer in the best clear explanation.
I think if want to take high quality shooting we should forget the camra on smartphone and put some budget on a real camera as I did in the end.
Finally understand why I like the old P30 Pro and S10+ compared with the new S21 and Pixel 6 crap.
