The Airbus Perlan 2 Glider is reaching for the stars and earlier in September broke a longstanding high-altitude record for engineless flight. The Airbus Perlan Mission II is an initiative to fly a glider to the edge of space, with a goal of reaching 90,000 feet.

That’s a sailplane. The prototype STS Enterprise was a glider.
Awesome 👍
Full record
Good job, but edge of space…
impressive, wave gliding is great. Just a pitty that I have no idea how high they went. Whisky Tango Foxtrott is 53k feet? … Ah thanks Ulrich. A hail to the metric system!
Q. Is this “Glider” pressurized?
OR Are the pilots waring Space Suits??
At these altitudes, humans CAN NOT SURVIVE.
Making a paper airplane that can fly more than 50 feet is more interesting.
16,000 m is still 84,000 m from the “edge of space”. 😉
Nice click-bait.
Very COOL.
(See what I did there. 🤓)
Screw that, I can go higher in FSX !! Funny thing is, now I actually have to try LOL ! This is so cool, great job guys. I wonder if the record still stands now in 2021 ?
From the mid 70’s through the late 80’s I was privileged to own along with my father the aircraft that set the world altitude record in 1963, the Schweitzer 1:23e. A one off version that set the record of 46000ft in 1963.
I believe it still holds the record for altitude gained in flight as it’s release point from the tow plane was some 7000 ft for an altitude gain of 39000ft.
Today that plane resides in a museum in Chino Calif. seeing this brings back memories.
52,000 feet is nowhere even remotely close to the edge of space. Good luck idealist
FEET mean NOTHING for 95% of Earth population. SHAME !!!
What the 1% do with their money.
disliked bc of feet
God I wish you journalists could do some research and find out how this works. You sound so stupid.
WOW
“without the need for a rocket booster”?? One must understand that rockets aren’t as much about height as speed. A rocket propels a satellite or capsule up to 16,000 miles an hour to achieve orbital velocity. Try doing that with a glider.
Awsome ! Never knew a glider could get that high…
Wow and I thought I was high.
Who needs a new design? Just get hold of an old U‑2 and turn off the jet engine 🙂
Feet. I have to calculate to meters. When I am ready the video is over.
Tod@s podeis ver una vez más la Tierra Plana completamente jajajaja Saludos!
Can it carry sidewinders?
this is so fuel efficient if they can take a satellite near the edge of earths stratosphere and then fire it up further with much less fuel required !
Wiki : On 2 September 2018, Jim Payne and Tim Gardner reached an altitude of 76,124 ft (23,203 m)
What am impressive design the glider has 🥇
And the wing span 🤤 °
that is… wow…
How big were the feet? At least give us a shoe-size.
Imagine not being able to come down
52,000 feet is a lot but it does mean your tile picture was a lie. A click bait lie. Thanks alot.
Does it have a toilet since your up there so long?🚽🌏🌎🌍🗺🧭 💩💩💩
Curvature of earth?!?!?!
hehe, Sandercock
sudan has green gas but badly need development for delivery in evey world
Badass!
That’s impressive by any standard
Imagine diving ‑90° from 90k feet at supersonic speeds
La terre est plate.
wopw , i lik video!!!!!!!!
They could possibly also eventually set the record for the longest distance glided in an engineless aircraft! 🙂
Steve Fossett RIP. A Legend in all things related to Bernoulli. All records are meant to be broken and Steve broke a lot of them.
do sandercock se… aight i’m out
Just imagine flying on a plane and seeing a glider fly by
So glider is just an air surf board? Neat
Can you come down whenever you want?
