The Copenhagen Wheel, based on MIT technology, can turn any ordinary bicycle into a powerful e‑bike. A motor, battery, and sensors are all packed into a slick rear wheel. You’ll get 20 miles on a single charge and conquer steep hills without breaking a sweat. Subscribe:

Copenhagen Wheel in the rear + GeoOrbital Wheel on the front = Peddle less and get extra miles with less effort.
Did I just get your mind blown? 🙂
Did they not include any of the tech specs or did I miss it somehow? It’s good that the battery runs at 48v to help out with the underpowered 350w (assuming 7.3 amps nominal?) motor. I love the simplicity of these all-in-one wheels but I’d have to see a field test to believe that a 279 Wh battery pack can actually get over 20 miles range. I wonder if a front wheel version of this could add efficiency to a mid drive eBike? All wheel drive might be cool too. Overall good stuff though, keep at it MIT! Also, pedaling a bicycle is definitely considered exercise.
Those spokes look like they can not be turned to fix a buckled wheel. Pretty pricey for a disposable gadget like this.
Why is he not wearing a helmet?
$1500 for just the wheel. Juiced Bikes’ new “CrossCurrent S” is $1700 for the WHOLE bike and has a lot better range. $1500 for a 20 mile ranged wheel isn’t worth it. The only people who’s buying this are the ones who didn’t do some research before purchasing.
cheaper options out there
Look good. But how to charge it? Is it possible to add or replace the battery?
Basicly beside a bike, i need a wheel and a phone to use this? Kinda expensive!
Wait. $1500?
Video did not discuss at all how it works or what makes the Copenhagen wheel special or different from other e‑bikes. Disappointing.
Great another bike for people who are to lazy to pedal
Hey does anyone know where to get that phone holder?
Rather get the more expensive VanMoof at that price range. The phone solution sounds too confusing
way way way too expensive for the wheel only
2000 bucks… I would just get a motorcycle
Copenhaagen, not CopenhAHgen…
Can you put 2 of these wheels on one bike ?
Co-pen-hay-gen wheel, not co-pen-harrr-gen…
I don’t believe the parts to make the battery cost $1500. When these wheels start costing comparable to what a bike costs that’s when they will get sales. Why would a normal person invest that much money when they could just get a car. The e‑bike industry in US is niche and elitist if you ask me.
Does exercise mode recharge the wheel. If so a great idea for an E bike
$1500 for the wheel? you can get conversion kits on ebay for $200
Does this really only work with a phone? Well that sucks guess we’ll just have to hack it : /
“I don’t break a sweat; it was light exorcise, enough to get my heart rate up, but not so much that I was straining.”
- Spoken like a true hipster.
And props to the Marin Fairfax SC. Great bike.
1400 dollar expensive
Pay three grand for a bike…any bike…ridiculous!
$1500 Is too much for just the wheel. The range isn’t that impressive too
One question, it is a good idea to put all the heaivy stuff on the wheel?
Do you even bike bro?
Wayy tooo expensive
Your saddle is too low silly
Chris Leehey Unfortunately, after their last app upgrade, the wheel now gets less than 10 miles on a full charge, in standard-setting. It used to get 20–25 miles. With this sharp decrease in range PLUS continued problems with their app, this wheel has been relegated to the TOY category. It is no longer viable transportation. Perhaps in Cambridge MA, where its made, it can be useful, as everything is so close together. But, here in VA, 10 miles barely gets me d’town.….and then I have to start working my way home. Perhaps 1 1/2 hrs total use time. What a JOKE. I went and bought a new bike to replace it and now the wheel sits in the storage building along with lawn tools that I don’t use much.
The price is too expensive
To be honest, as a full time bicycle commuter in a state where places are far apart, this wheel would not be usable. Plus I do not have a smart phone, just a old flip phone.
Almost a year later and…
