Some clarity here given some recent revelations… Apple claims the old batteries are incapable of meeting peak performance demands over time. The choice to reduce performance is apparently to avoid random device shutdowns. That said, why isn’t this issue affecting other devices using similar battery tech? Are people using iPhone’s longer? Either way the argument regarding lack of transparency remains. Here’s the full statement from Apple,
Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.
Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.
I choose battery life over performance 🙂
planned obsolescence
Sue them to death
Is it possible after jailbreaking your iPhone to overclock like on Android? If not, I wouldn’t buy another iPhone ever
2022 I’m just finding out about this now 😂
New Iphone means new contract you pay more. When Iphone is out of contract you pay less! I realize something was up when my Iphone’s apps wouldn’t work after having the same Iphone for four years.
Wish my wife was like that..but piss off cell millionaires ..we all can’t afford it! Stop crushing us! See yS laughing..but not funny!
I meant my wife..il trade her in! But no! Leave my cell alone!
They are still doing it, I’ve got a iphone 11 I Barely used for two months put in a box as I got the 12 as gift anyways it broke 3 months ago so I went back to the 11 because it was basically new, after 28 days exactly it started slowing down, screen started glitching the air pods would disconnect on YouTube but work perfectly fine in a phone call except the left one is slightly muted but I’ve cleaned them and set up the options right and still it Persists, they basically didn’t stop just found Legal ways of doing, I’ll give you a way around it as an example, so instead of slowing down the phone in an update they can pre program it into the phone to Activate at certain point and they could say “well we’ve taken time to Implement long life Technology into our phones or call it “green tech but only if proven to be possible, I’m telling you they are still at it.
Afraid you lose support from Apple?
If I was worried about my battery health I would get a new battery in my phone. keep my phone running how I paid for it to run when I bought it 2 years ago😊
Literally they just need to sell batteries and make them replacable.…oh wait they won’t make as much money as forcing you to upgrade
mfw finding a wild fan boy
Funny thing is that battery life is also bad after a couple of years. In other words bad performance and bad battery life.
Yeah after the stupid nee iPhone came out they shut off my back camera now it’s just black
Me knowing mine is 6s how did he know 💀
Read between the line, they want you to buy the latest phone all the time.
DABBBBBBB
when are we going to stand up to them?
So if you reset your phone back to factory settings would that fix it?
In the end I would not be surprised if the updates to older apple products to both run slower and burn the battery faster just to claim bad battery and you end up spending money to buy new batteries each year or buy the newest things not saying they would do that but if they are I wouldn’t be surprised
Wow, I finally get it. Basically, Apple is saying, if you want an iPhone, you HAVE to buy a new one, every 2 years.
iPhone started to spell like c*ap! I owned i8 and was best!
Maybe battery replacement is the solution.
17 headlock down aka Apple penalty
My iPhone s battery is going from 100% to 20% with in 5 min no joke
Apple is really playing yall! How come you can’t have both?
Tim crook aka Tim Cook is still doing this B.S!!! Seems like midway through the current iOS it slows down I noticed my iPhone 14 pro max after iOS 16.5 has slowed dramatically and battery life also this is the last iPhone that I’ll ever get Samsung s 24 ultra here i come
Since they did this, I’ve never upgraded my phone or its software, same with my Mac. Apple is the greatest practitioner of planned obsolescence in history of the world.
How tf do people still support a company that does this and charge people thousands of dollars to get a new phone by slowing down your phone?
Still experiencing these issues — in other areas.
I keep buying new devices, only for them to fail due to normal use after 9 months (two airpods, one airpod pro set), and a few iPhone pro models from the iPhone SE, to consistently updated models of their iPhone pro lineup.
Other than my MacBook; I’m fairly certain I’ll avoid Apple in the future.
Snobs.
1. Trust and Integrity: When consumers buy a product, they trust that it will function as described. Intermittent failures violate this trust.
2. Financial Impact: Consumers spend their hard-earned money on products expecting them to work reliably. If the product fails intermittently, consumers might have to spend additional money on repairs or replacements.
3. Safety Concerns: Depending on the product, intermittent failures can lead to safety issues. For instance, if a car’s brake system were to intermittently fail, it could lead to accidents.
4. Wasted Time and Effort: Consumers may have to spend significant time troubleshooting or trying to repair a product that shouldn’t fail in the first place. This inconvenience is not what they signed up for when making the purchase.
5. Environmental Impact: Products that fail prematurely can lead to increased waste, as consumers might discard them and buy replacements. This contributes to environmental degradation.
6. Reputation and Long-Term Business Health: Companies that sell unreliable products may damage their reputation and lose customer trust in the long term. While they might gain short-term profits, the long-term sustainability of the business can be at risk.
7. Transparency and Honesty: Ethical businesses operate with transparency and honesty. Selling a product that has known intermittent failures without informing the consumer is deceptive.
8. Fair Competition: It’s unfair to other businesses that invest time and resources to ensure their products are reliable. These ethical businesses might lose out to competitors who undercut prices by selling unreliable products.
9. Moral Responsibility: Beyond financial and practical considerations, businesses have a moral responsibility to their customers and society at large to produce and sell products that enrich lives rather than causing undue stress or harm.
iPad users and pc users are hitting the gosh dang griddy
2023 still doing it
I prefer performance over battery or to have the option to choose when I want to prioritize one over another
My iPhone 7 with latest update IS SLOWER than an iPhone 6 with factory reset… I upgraded my iPhone to a zfold5 AND I AM NEVER BUYING APPLE AGAIN.
