But the ethernet cable is right there…
“radio waves aren’t bad for humans” didn’t the inventors of it died because of the radio waves ?
How useless is this if there’s still a cable needed all the way to the desK???? you might as well just connect the cable wich is there anyway, and is WAY faster? This is just the most useless tech i’ve ever seen
The only, and only upside is it’s secure, no one will be able to access your computer via wifi hack or something
Lmao. It’s wireless & wired at the same time.
Useless as its has you has to put a dongle. Nice, but useless.
Imagine a house with such ceiling lights (every light is connected to a main system, like a main desktop in house to control the internet, via ethernet cable), it would be more private than a wifi since light cannot pass thru walls, that is the only use case I can think of but what if you want to use this at night ??
PASS
So we wont be able to use internet in daytime, wtf ?
another useless product
More ways to give you brain cancer.
hey idiots.… what if I want internet in the dark?
> Without use of wireless radio
And what exactly light is?
Wi-Fi is gonna be next big thing after seeing this.…🤔
So, I can’t use internet when my I turn off my lights? No, thanks.
still seems like just a lamp with an antenna plugged in .… thought it was something for the movie office party .. which was a bit interesting
What if you want to watch Netflix with the lights out
A solution to a problem no one has. If you have to use a dongle anyway, you’re better off just getting an Ethernet to USB adapter.
Or you could just encrypt your wifi traffic with decent encryption?
Why aren’t there consumer grade, mass produced ethernet over power and broadband over power lines yet? Imagine, getting internet signals from the power cord of your tv, electric fan, monitor, game console, or even your lamp.
yes we worry about those things.
it’s a gimmick
What about the futuristic lights array that will behave as a LIFI extender range and will enable the possibility to be connected in the whole area (while the lights are ON)?
Let’s reinvent a dumber version of the wheel! Brilliant!
Apple users will love it since they love dongles already 🙂
Why
Or just spend 2$ on an ethernet cable.
lol
FINALLY LIFI IS HERE. LET’S GOOOOOOOO
if security was because it is an individual lamp so it’s much harder to tap into then wouldn’t the ceiling lamp versions just kind of defeat that purpose
i thought the purpose of Li-Fi was to increase the speed of the information in/out… i wonder if this is the same thing… idk…
This is stupid.
When it’s only for a short range you could also just use an ethernet cable. That would be also more secure. Yes, there are no radio waves a hacker behind a wall can use to hack into your network. But what about a hacker that can see your window? Light goes through glass. Thet’s the whole purpose of a window.
why
Why?
Health and RF radation. “If you are a person who worries about these things.….the option is there” Really? That’s just capitulation and reinforcement to those who live in cognitive dissonance, using technology but otherwise rejecting science, e.g., anti-vaxxers, climate deniers, flat-earthers. Shame on you, The Verge. Don’t stoop to this.
it sends data to devices through light.. ok… but how can it receives data from devices that connected with it? and how devices sends data? i think a LED is blinking on devices??
Well done. Another step closer to the future.
You’re really grasping at straws to find uses for this one, lol.
“I suppose you could just plug in ethernet…but it’s a nice looking lamp!”
wifi uses sound for wireless, lifi uses light for wireless? can data be trucked by light in longrange for in measurable durations of communication points between solar systems? would then have wifi for convoys using lifi amongst themselves to have low latency gaming when travelling to the locations requiring months or years or generations of lifespans
what a joke😂
