Sad that this hap­pened and I see fault on both sides. 

Yes, the woman was not in the cross walk but at the same time and most impor­tant­ly, the lady inside of the Uber car should have tak­en con­trol because it‘s very obvi­ous she wasn‘t pay­ing atten­tion and doing her job.

Why do we need dri­ver­less cars in the first place? Just to lose more jobs? I don’t under­stand peo­ple who think that automat­ing every sin­gle thing is good for us? Use the dri­ver­less tech to make human dri­ving safer, eg col­li­sion avoid­ance, traf­fic warn­ing, etc, but keep the humans behind the wheel.

Self dri­ving cars are too vul­ner­a­ble to attack and manip­u­la­tion, that makes them a very bad idea. Too vul­ner­a­ble to secu­ri­ty issues, cyber attacks by indi­vid­u­als and coun­tries. EMP blasts or solar flares could knock out pow­er grids and satel­lites affect­ing all trans­porta­tion. Some­one could hack your vehi­cle and kid­nap or kill you while you’re nap­ping in your self dri­ving car and claim it was a soft­ware glitch.
If our trans­porta­tion sys­tem became pri­mar­i­ly auto­mat­ed and a prob­lem occurred, it could be days or weeks before it was fixed. Dur­ing that time the trans­port of food, med­i­cine, water and oth­er neces­si­ties would be stopped or very lim­it­ed.
Also, in the future, if the automa­tion of vehi­cles had been around for say…40 years and an invad­ing force or oth­er cat­a­stro­phe were to strike, most peo­ple would not even know how to dri­ve and that would be a major issue when emer­gen­cies occurred.

Why is it fine for human oper­at­ed cars to have acci­dents but not for autonomous cars? I mean it’s sad that some­body got killed but doesn’t that hap­pen every­day any­ways with human dri­ven cars? Halt­ing the project when an acci­dent hap­pens is like ban­ning all cars when some­body crashed. It just doesn’t make sense. They should col­lect the data and improve the system.
