CNET editors react to Apple new 9.7‑inch iPad

The price is not right at all, since the pen­cil itself cost $100 dol­lars more and the key­board cost $100 dol­lars more and I don’t think schools will be spend­ing $500 dol­lars buy­ing hun­dreds of these when they can buy 3 Chrome­books for that price.

So Apple shows a key­board that con­nects via the light­ning con­nec­tor instead of an easy Blue­tooth con­nect­ing key­board like the air pods. Mixed mes­sages. Does peo­ple find Blue­tooth too fid­dly com­pared to con­nec­tors. At least it has a head­phone jack I’m guessing

Leave it to CNET to rave about the same repack­aged prod­uct, iter­a­tions of what Google has been doing for years and CNET staff not ful­ly under­stand­ing what Google has already done.

There was noth­ing new at this event, absolute­ly noth­ing. Well, maybe new for Apple users but noth­ing new to what Google has been doing for Edu­ca­tion all these years. Apple has a lot to catch up on that’s for sure.

Was expect­ing a new Rose Gold iPad Mini but end­ed up with heavy focus on stu­dents and teach­ers, who cares about those stu­pid kids and AR ?

You don’t need a key­board with iPad it’s almost use­less with­out mouse sup­port in iOS.

I’m guess­ing many of the peo­ple say­ing Apple’s pre­sen­ta­tion of their new iPad is under­whelm­ing have nev­er used an Apple Pen­cil before or at least were shown what cool things it could be used for. This pre­sen­ta­tion was not for every­one, it speci­fi­ci­ly was tar­get­ed at the edu­ca­tion sec­tor. I’m teach­ing myself and using the Apple Pen­cil every day in my work­flow. Imag­in­ing what could be done if whole class­es had sets of iPads with Apple Pen­cils makes me very hap­py and look­ing for­ward to the future of schools.
