nothing worse than China southern econ ugh
I use China unicom with an unlimited data plan for 55yuan/month ($8.5) and I use a VPN 18yuan ($2.85). Much cheaper. And if you want to travel around the world, you can get chatsim. It’s under $10/year
Google Fi makes sense for people who don’t use a lot of data. I’m one that that had a plan which costs $60 per month. The plan had unlimited data, which I thought was a good deal. Well, I noticed that I wasn’t using a lot of data because I have WiFi at home and at work. My normal data usage was less than a 1 Gig per month.
Now, I use Google Fi, which costs $20 dollars per mouth. I’m only billed for the data that I use. So, for my needs it cuts my bill in half. Now, Imagine if I could get my wife on board which would drop our 120 monthly cellular bill down to $60, theoretically.
You should definitely try it, there is not contract and you can bring any unlocked phone. If you want to take advantage of the seamless power of Google use of 3 networks, which ever has the strongest signal, you would have to use one of the phone models that is fully compatible with Google Fi. I like Google Fi, so I may by a compatible phone later.
If you decide you want to try it, we can both save $20 if you use my code when you sign up. Once signed up, you will also have an opportunity to save $20 off your bill for each person sign up under your code.
My code is: https://g.co/fi/r/5K5D4H
Must be so cool traveling while doing what you love.
while you are roaming how do you call local numbers. when you are in china for example can you call local people are locals able to call you. danke
do you have a video on how you updated the apn registary.
What about Singapore and Malaysia?
When did fi get Verizon connectivity? I thought it was us cellular. Anyone confirm?
jknew?
so what’s the difference between VPN and Google Fi?
I’m in the UK and we have loads of deals on our mobile networks. Three often has deals that give you either unlimited or 100gb of data. We also have Giffgaff that give you unlimited data for £25 a month.
Would I get VPN with Samsung phone? Or only Pixel and Motorola?
In Serbia I’m paying like 50 US dollars for one month but unlimited data with high speeds and my whole family is using (3 persons) and no restrictions.
I have project Fi, I am going to China. Ok, will check this out!
I use a budget US carrier (Visible) who offers unlimited data but ZERO international service. I often travel to Canada and decided to try Google Fi to have some phone and data service. I works well for me. Phone calls cost $0.20/min which is a bit expensive but for me cellular calls are a last resort. Most of my calls would be thru WhatsApp anyway. And texting is my primary way to communicate. At $10/GB Google Fi service is dirt cheap and plenty fast.
My trips often last about a week and use ~1GB of data. Google bills me less than $30 but then refunds a substantial portion of that back to me when I pause my phone service after that week of travelling.
I just signed up for Google Fi, and ordered a SIM. Didn’t realize they had the eSIM option that I could use on my Pixel 2XL. Thanks for covering that!
China 5G lmao
We need an update
google fi is a way to get all your data without being a real provider
Can I use this in my iPad?
I’ve had Fi from day one and consider it to be the best service, hands own. In the US I do what you suggested, using WiFi most of the time. My monthly bill is about $25. I’ve only used it in Canada, out of the US and it works great there. The person I was traveling with had Verizon and it went away when we crossed the border, while Fi said Welcome to Canada. I particularly like that you only pay for what you use, and there a no contracts. Get in and out whenever you want, but since I’ve had Fi I have never changed services. I used it with a Nexus 6 originally, and now have a Pixel 3, which I bought when Google offered it at half price for Fi users. I use the free hotspot feature in my campervan where I have a large TV and and YouTube TV service. Everything I have at home I take with me on the road. Thanks for pointing out that using roaming allows connection on Verizon. I haven’t tried that because I usually have LTE wherever I go anyway.
I have free. Free is the same like fi just for 65 countrys worldwide.
I am using it in the us and canada without problems.

Thanks for these great info. I want to hear your opinion on this: I need to connect to compnay’s VPN for work, so if I am using the FI in China and using their “Built-in VPN” that should be able to hide my ip address as in China, do you think I can still connect the compnay’s VPN without showing IP in address? Also did you guys use the FI data on the laptop without any problem? Thanks!
does this still work?
Watching this in 2023 sheesh
is this still the case in 2023?
Does this work in 2023? Anyone know?
