The TRUTH About Smartphones in 2018

Have we reached peak smart­phone? How sat­is­fied are you with your cur­rent smart­phone? When will you upgrade and why?

Ridicu­lous bat­tery life. That’s what it would take, where I could get through 2 days as a pow­er user.

There is just no need to upgrade phones that often any­more. Heck, if it was­n’t for the issue of bat­tery life, and the non remov­able nature of most phone bat­ter­ies today, I prob­a­bly would upgrade like once every 3 years. I cur­rent­ly upgrade every 2 years or so, pri­mar­i­ly, due to bat­tery life issues. Bat­ter­ies start to degrade over time, mak­ing it nec­es­sary to upgrade (some­thing I hate). I bought a Sony Xpe­ria X in July of 2017, about a year after the phone came out, and only paid $240 for it. I kept that phone until last week, May 2019, where I now upgrad­ed to a LG V30. My Xpe­ria still worked great, very lit­tle lag if any, per­fect for all day-to-day needs, but the issue was the bat­tery life. Not only did that phone orig­i­nal­ly come with a pret­ty small bat­tery, but after 2 years of use, it became an issue to get through a full day of mod­er­ate usage with­out hav­ing to charge it. If I could eas­i­ly buy a $10 bat­tery online and swap it, I would have kept that Xpe­ria as my main phone for at least anoth­er year.

this brings up a very inter­est­ing ques­tion but yeah with smart­phones where do we go next because idk whats next for the future of smart­phones and i do not think any­one knows right now lol.

I’m sure that it could get better.…..having more water proof phones, stronger glass, more respon­sive phones.…that’s what I would like.…..I have 2 years with my galaxy s8, I fac­to­ry reset my phone and it runs like new.….I’m hap­py with it, I’m not think­ing about get­ting an s10 5G.

Alca­tel devices are pret­ty darned good, for sub $100 devices.

All these new GIANT phones SUUUUUUCK!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me a phone i can use with ONE hand!!! Put wor­thy tech in it, don’t give me a new phone that can’t do what my old phone could!! BE CREATIVE FOR A CHANGE!!

It’s like you have been watch­ing me lol I have Two phones one most­ly for work calls and one pri­vate the work phone is my old pri­vate phone that I got 5years ago it is an HTC one M7 and it does what I need and more the sec­ond is my main phone that I play games on you and do every­thing from edit pics to send­ing emails and that is an HTC One m8 I do not buy a new smart­phone just because there is a new mod­el out when I buy stuff I buy stuff that lasts first­ly and sec­ond­ly some­thing that has a tech­no­log­i­cal advance­ments that jus­ti­fies it I have root­ed my m8 and I have Android O in it what am I miss­ing out on noth­ing I have a recent android ver­sion and all the apps I need the only thing new phones can dif­fer in is slight­ly bet­ter cam­era or slight­ly this or that I’m not impressed with the minis­cule changes and their sub­siqent­ly over priced tag…

This is why I buy sam­sung. They seem to be inno­v­a­tive. but that is because they also have the best…well…advertising — infor­ma­tion about their inno­va­tions. I do not have time to google every phone or fea­ture or com­par­i­son even. I wish I found your reviews a bit soon­er. I was unaware of oth­er s‑pen fea­tured phones and would not even know where to get them. Now I do know, but also — I need more user review on any­thing I am about to buy. I am in my 60’s and for me to go to a com­plete­ly dif­fer­ent look­ing skin — it gets con­fus­ing. It gets bad enough when I switch phones late­ly — hav­ing to get used to new things and even dif­fer­ent icons or sim­ply where they are. Thank­ful­ly switch­ing is only when I buy a new note. The old­er a per­son gets, the less plas­tic­i­ty the brain has and old habits die hard. Many of us baby boomers are into smart­phones and oth­er tech, but the mar­ket knows we won’t be here for­ev­er and they gear their prod­ucts and fea­tures to younger peo­ple. Some of the stuff for senior cit­i­zens is just awful and more con­fus­ing for them. They hate hear­ing “it’s so easy!”. I tried teach­ing a sim­ple flip phone to my moth­er in law and she could not under­stand the con­cept of answer­ing yes or no to the ques­tion on the screen, and the way that phone was set up, it WAS confusing.

It would take a com­pa­ny that will cus­tom build them to the cus­tomers specs. I wish I could order a phone the way I want it.

A cam­era that has near same qual­i­ty as some high end DSLRS, extreme bat­tery life I’m talk­ing a full day with con­stant use, a ter­abyte of stor­age, sap­phire screen, a head­phone jack, and loud­dddd speak­ers. Will that ever hap­pen though?

I have Sony Z1 for like 6 years!!
I still dont see any rea­son to upgrade!!
Seri­ous­ly though if I upgrade my phone I will drown in gam­ing space and I lose my pre­cious time!!!

No notch + water­proof + 48h bat­tery life + a beast proces­sor + nice price tag like 800 $ + update for anoth­er 6 years 😂😂😂

I still use the iPhone 6s Plus. Got the bat­tery replace last year, it runs per­fect­ly fine. I plan on using it until it gets no longer sup­port­ed by the lat­est iOS- plan­ning on upgrad­ing to a sub-$500 refur­bished iPhone by the end of the year hop­ing the iPhone 7 Plus is gonna last me anoth­er 2–3 years, though.

It’s 2020, what would you say is the aver­age lifes­pan of a smart­phone giv­en the cur­rent designs and specs? Do 2017, 2018, 2019 phones match up to recent smart­phone mod­els? Head-to-head can they last?

Com­ing back to this video, not every creator/influencer has the will required to speak about issues like this one. While every­one is out there echo­ing words of smart­phone com­pa­nies, it’s nice to have a real­i­ty check.
