Why artificial intelligence has no common sense

We are surrounded by artificial intelligence. From the Google Home and Amazon Echo, to Facebook’s facial recognition and whatever it is Huawei’s doing. It’s easy to become desensitized to the term and misunderstand the current state of AI we live in. Verge video director Becca Farsace talks to some experts in the field of AI to better pinpoint what all this AI really means. Subscribe:

What is your favorite use of AI?
Great video Becca. Its a nice summary of how far we got with AI!
AI is still far from hunting humans but AI taking jobs of humans and rendering millions of people jobless is very real. In the coming years with advancement in technologies this is only going to get worse, which will not be any less than an apocalypse .
Seriously, as a roboticist who deals with AI everyday i gotta say, media like The Verge has to STOP playing on the whole “evil AI” and that drama BS, AI can’t do the stuff you see in hollywood and will never will, stop scaring people.
I think the reason why AI hasn’t moved on to the next step, is because most human doesn’t really understand how the brain really works.
For example , in the video that talks about Alpha Go , and devalue it because it only knows how to play go , and doesn’t care about survive.
Don’t you think that is exactly the same way our body is born to function ? The body and many of our cells , are there to do some specific tasks, and the reason why we are surviving , because we have different “administrator” that can prioritize the action and reaction and control the functions of our body.
We as human have observed so much , it is very hard to think that the people that are building AI is not smart enough to replicate the human mind and body systems.
Human as a living thing , has a set of rules in our genes. As we made games that stimulate the real world , and having all the information as experience , it is really hard to think that AI will not create their own “free will”.
It is just like math, when you have a large amount of samples , it only takes time before you know the equation.
Autocorrect and predictive typing saved me a bunch of years of manual typo correction
We are in the Stone Age of AI but instead of millions years of evolution it will take 100 years
I just dont understand why people dont want AI in weapons such as drones. When a missile is fired from a drone many times civilians get killed. With AI you can easily identify your target at enormous distances and the missiles can become more precise and killing those jihadists more effectivly.
Like my comment when judgement day comes .…
Finally, some common sense reporting on AI. It’s not all it’s hyped up to be.
This is so sad. Alexa, play despacito 3
Artificial intelligence is no match for my natural stupidity
Current machine learning is in it of itself flawed. As he explains it works out patterns based on data. So if you break pattern like losing your job it will still tell you when your train leaves for work and probably will for some days to come until it figures out that you leaving for work at a specific time is the less likely outcome based on the new data you’ve given it.
Also A.I. is only truly A.I. if it’s unrestricted, the moment you code in restrictions it can’t act like a human because the human brain is thought wise unrestricted, you can think of anything you want and do what you want with those thoughts. And if you build a truly unrestricted A.I. and gives it access to the internet then you’re just asking for trouble and deserve what’s coming to you.
AI is basically book smart vs street smart.
Becca is my fav
In 10 years we’re all going to regret we didnt put pressure on our goverments to actually change the law and take full control over development of AI. It should be treated with much more caution than nuclear weapons!
Who cares about it windows 10 helped it grow let’s build AI’s send to mars let them build an army come to earth an whip out humans
Did you just say were not near it for one Sophia has already disproved your point and you know how much machines save life’s in military combat or doing jobs for humans and not have to be paid hourly.….
Guess she’s saying Stephen Hawkins can’t predict which he said where AI is going we need to watch ourselves
I’d like to see AI be used in video games like improving enemy AI. So it’s not only more realistic but can also challenge you as a player on a do-able strategic level. Also it may also help in education and learning and catering to each individual’s unique learning patterns & methods.
Regulation stifles innovation. Period.

Hi, my name is Connor. I’m the Android send by Cyberlife
I can already see that soon after we start making fully functional AI robots and they build more robots by themselves we will have a full population of robots fighting for their freedom from humans then eventually they’ll want rights just like humans until they become citizens just like us and run for office
This video is brilliant please continue making videos about technology and AI. Things are going to start accelerating quickly and we need people to keep reporting on the progress going on.
Long before AI is going to kill you it is going to take your job.
Excellent video! I gave an AI keynote to some 40 engineers at Concordia University (slides here: http://www.tinyurl.com/aikeynoteslides) and my key message was, “Get started learning how to create and/or use AI!” As a half-joke, I told the audience in a semi-serious tone: “You think you can compete against the Terminator if you don’t know how to program computers???” Basically, I assume that 1. your job (even the highbrow jobs) will be eliminated and 2. Universal Basic Income will be implemented in developed countries like Canada, the U.S., etc. However, there will be some time between 1 and 2 and therefore, people must adopt computational thinking (search that term on Google) and create solutions, products and services that AI cannot create so they can survive economically.
I love Google assistant because it helps with my studies
Artificial general intelligence is likely closer than you all think. Singularity will likely happen before 2050 according to top futurists. It’ll take off exponentially
AI military robots will definitely end humanity
Oh look another AI video!
Please somebody tell me name of that background music
Its funny that people think that AI can do things that are shown in the Movies.….
After Google demonstrated how Duplex works everybody is acting like they were freaked Out infact AI which is present now largely depends on programmed task’s instead of thinking on its own.…
its crazy how many people don’t understand how stupid computers actually are
You don’t need artificial general intelligence. Many narrow AI systems collect different data on the Internet that all goes to a central data collection site. It builds this personal profile for every single person.
We do not need an AI that cooks Jesus it’s so unnecassary and making us even lazier and less capable…
If people accept A.I. without fighting against it then they deserve what they will get, eliminated.
It doesn´t seem like anything to me.
You’re absolutely wonderful! You could narrate paint drying and it would be delightful! 10/10!
