MoviePass announced a movie theater subscription plan that seemed too good to be true in 2018. As it turns out, it was. As the service bled cash, subscribers were actually the ones taking the hit, with their subscriptions being swapped, changed, or even revoked entirely. So while MoviePass isn’t the movie industry’s savior, it could illuminate a path forward for theaters to take control of their own destinies. Subscribe:

Are you willing to make these tradeoffs for MoviePass?
Wah wah wah 😢😢😢 capitalism sucks… I barely go to the movies, having movie pass makes me want to go to the movies more often. If I want to go and watch an IMAX movie I pay for it,NO PROBLEM, but make something worth paying for . What if movie companies start making moving only for certain formats. Make a 3D movie that uses this feature and immerses people in the movie. Stop complaining about what movie pass is doing and isn’t doing and start creating better product.
We cant see Mission Impossible: Fallout thats some bs
Hit piece. The same can be said of most other Internet subscription services that never get called out. Why single out Movie Pass?
Lol the Movie industry is on a full court press to kill Moviepass. People aren’t going to the theaters. They don’t care about the laser sound or whatever. The tickets are too high. The concessions have always been too high
Sponsored by AMC
This video could be summarized by: “big chains had a virtual oligopoly and now they’re bothered by competition”
Moviepass customers are for sure not losing, they made going to movies a reality for a lot of people again. The value isn’t for some people everyone using moviepass is getting the value if they are going to movies. There are huge interests in tearing moviepass down because they shook up the industry. Whether they lost money or not they certainly deliver an experience FOR the customer and not for special interest that usually take advantage of customers. Moviepass is for movie lovers and for the love of cinema!
Strange strange argument
The UK had this sort of thing for years.
It’s funny how a simmilar thing in Poland (Cinema City Unlimited) thrives — for about 12 dollars a month you can see anything in any theater belonging to the Cinema City chain (the biggest in Poland)
Never heard of Moviepass until now, but it don’t matter since i haven’t been to a theater since sometime in the 90’s. I also haven’t watched movies at all since they all pretty much suck these days.
Oh, the poor theaters spending absurd amounts of money on lavish IMAX setups and the mean mean customers just going to the regular 2D screenings.
I really don’t see how people seeing more movies could possibly be a bad thing. More revenue for filmmakers means more & better movies, and perhaps an end to the seemingly inevitable Disney takeover of cinemas.
The only reason i am adding a post to this video is so you know who disliked it.
My god dude, what have you done with your phone?
God, I hate the verge. So pertinacious and arrogant.
Wow look at all the genius Movie pass subscribers from 1 month ago where are you now? Hahaha
i disagree i think going to the movie is over rated. you can set up a 120
+ screen for cheap and get a 7.7 suround cheap also. my setup rivles my local emigine in every way exept i olny have a 135 in screen and running9.2.4 atmos setup
movie a day is gone, right? all you get is 3 a month? then you have to pay extra.
Whoa lots of AMC shilling in this video. Seems creepy. Like you were paid for this propaganda.
The guy in this video is whining about not being able to see something more than once. At least MoviePass lets us watch something for free. I think we all knew that the business model was eventually going to cause it to go bankrupt, and people are just upset that they are limited to certain movies and show times. At least we still get to save money and watch movies for really cheap
now MoviePass gives you only 3 free movies a month.……
I think you are angry about movie pass because going to all the movies made you somehow special but moviepass could take away what makes you special and that’s way you are angry at it.
Theaters lose money on tickets anyway. They make profit on food.
Wow, just wow. You’re hurting the Verge’s credibility with false and biased reporting like this. Movie theaters price gouge you. I afford to pay $15.00 for a premium movie ticket, and another $15.00 for popcorn and a drink. Consider the middle class and below when you make these. Taking a family to see a movie with concessions can easily run over $100.00.
i dont know if i should cancel or stay with them
we get AMC
Nice ad. AMC
idc i wanna watch my movie actually nvm im gonna chill while watching netflix
You got to stop telling people why and how some business is not working for someone. That’s how we change, sure enough, when Amazon came with 2 day delivery and Netflix came with on-demand movie watch it created a new market.
No. I just don’t like the idea of going to movie theaters any more—too many annoyances and rude people
