This Lenovo Smart Display is the first smart speaker with Google Assistant on a screen. It runs Android Things and is a completely new way to use an intelligent assistant. Our question – is it better than the Amazon Echo?

What would you want to see on a smart speaker screen?
Looks like another device created for the sake of taking your money rather than providing anything new. Just looks like a table with a bigger speaker.
Ha… who would have thought it.… a tablet style screen that you can operate by voice..
or even touch!
I don’t get the point of it.
It’s a tablet.
I won’t be buying one for the same reason I don’t have an Amazon Echo Show, despite having several normal Echos around the house.
gotta say this guy’s reviews are awesome!
You need to sensor or cut out the “OK Google” command in the video’s. Please.
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could set your own name for google and it will respond to that name?
Since you don’t need to hold the device then what’s with those ugly bezels?
in the whole video i was thinking why does this has a proximity sensor in that left bezel. :/
(edited)
I guess it’s a ambient light sensor to control brightness … th8 makes sense… lol
If you’re wondering why your viewer stats show everyone leaving the video at 4:24 it’s because you triggered our Google Homes to play CNN.

Recieved my 10 inch version yesterday, set up easily a little confusion about the video call service but other than that all went well until I tried to add it to my group of three other Google home speakers one of my favorite features is filling the home with my favorite music but I could not add this new speaker to my speaker group. Gave up yesterdaay and tried again this morning, called Lenovo Help Desk and after a long wait was told that they could not help me and gave me a number to call their Tech direct. The number they gave me connected me to Best Buy Geek Squad! and after I explained the problem they were more than happy to come out and set it up for $100. I am currently on hold with Google Home Tech Service and have been for about a hour now, granted most of that time has been waiting for them to get through to Lenovo (just got back to me and Lenovo cut him off) I give up after 1hr and 30min Google Home Tech Service told me to call Lenovo back and ask for a supervisor. It seems at though noone has been brought up to speed on this new device. While I have been waiting I happened upon another video that seems to answer my question (thank you Brett) it appears this device will not! link to other Google speakers in a group but in rereading all of the marketing it sure seems as though the are saying it would connect to other Google audio devices. This is a deal breaker for me and I’m packing it up to ship back.
my phone was going crazy with this video
Great review! I actually watched this video from my Smart Display and thankfully nothing got triggered.
Yes, We would be Looking at the gray back. Really! I did not buy amazon show because youtube was removed by google. I love this. Google rocks. Yes, adding hey is really a pain, are you kidding me. Get a robut to speak for you. We are becoming so lazy pretty soon we will all be on breathing machines and have tubes coming out out rear ends so we do not have to expend any energy breathing and going to the bathroom. So spoiled, we are ruining our health by sitting and fast foods and fast everything.
Definitely an awesome device, especially for moms. I think this made me spend more time in the kitchen than ever before.
A kitchen TV…
I got a Google Home Mini in my bathroom too–and it’s the most-used Chromecast device in the house. Right on, man.
I love Lenovo’s stand designs!❤
Why not just put an iPad on a stand ? They’re thinking way too hard about new products they think people need.
I couldn’t even finish watching the video as my home just started playing cnn, lost my whole chrome play queue which is pretty annoying. I would have expected better from a tech review.
Google is on the right track to become SkyNet… keep it up Alphabet
Smart display :))) it’s a smartphone with a cord…
Anddd my Google home tried to tell me to buy cheese.…
Awesome device for making a better house environment. Recommended.
Dislike for using “Hey Google” so many times during the video. Activated my Google home so many times. Drown it out next time.
Awesome device. The camera and mic shutter is just one of many awesome features the device offers. Recommended!
You should consider that the people watching this video already have google home most likely and you are gonna trigger a lot of them!
Aaaaand this is what tablets should had been from the beginning. Tablets forgot the real human factor. What size are they? The size of a human head more or less. How do we basically interact with other humans? We use verbal language. That’s why tablets as we know will die, because they are neither smartphones neither laptops. And let’s face it they are uncomfortable no matter how much we get use to them.
Do you think Apple will jump on this smart display bandwagon? If so, when do you think Apple will release one?
Got the 10″ and 8″. Love these! Simple setup. Super responsive. Beautiful screens. Love the morning routines!
Can this thing connect to live tv news ?
I really hope it plays a HowToBasic video when someone asks it a how-to question…
Is this the same as Google’s new display?
I want this on my car dashboard. This device suitable for hand free control when driving.
can line or whatsapp make the video call or call only in this gadget ?
Interface should move away from screens. We should explore more ways of interaction. Motion, energy efficient,
Bezel…
I just got this Lenovo Smart Display for Christmas from my son. Where is the keyboard? HELLLLLP.

I have the 10 inch one in my kitchen along with an Alexa In my livingroom. In my opinion, the Lenovo is absolutely useless. Coming from Google, cant even get on something simple as Facebook and they are selling these for 150–200 dollars. It’s a total waste of money
I would only buy this if it would hook up to the regular YouTube and Netflix
How to video chat with it?
After watch this video, I spent 4 dollar and bought 2 timers. Am now making chicken dinner.
Your are not so expressive and body language appears over acting.
I thought you couldn’t cast Netflix to this type of devices (Home Hub, etc). But he mentions you can… I’m confused 😕
