When astronauts go into space they need to be in peak physical fitness, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get sick. And when they do, there is no clinic or hospital nearby. In this episode, Loren visits the STRATUS Center in Boston, where simulations are being developed to train astronauts on how to handle medical emergencies.

Do you think you could handle a medical emergency in space?
Youre such a good host! Great energy, great style!
Omg I am an emergency room doctor and I would love to do this.
I need House M.D., space edition.
This is kinda attracts me to space🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍
Were you playing with your hair?
Space verge think about that
4:58 “I got bronchitis! ‘Aint nobody got time for that!”
“I thought somebody was barbequing.”
i love brunnet
This is fascinating. How do they deal with blood not pooling? They should bring a doctor with them on the trip. Being able to manufacture drugs is the next step as well as surgical bots. They need an EMH.
Why is it so dark in this training room? That wouldn’t be the case on the ISS.
No time for PPE? Then you are all dead.
i want more..Make longer videos guys, quality top notch though.

Reminds of the anime Space Brothers. Uchhuu Kyodai.
This is starting to look like Star trek stuff.
😳👍👍
“In an extraterrestrial environment, simulating things before they actually occur… is a real opportunity to improve the care we provide potential patients in a space mission.”
So that’s why they have the medical emergency with an astronaut named Ripley… (3:57)
Wouldn’t it be easier to train a doctor to be an astronaut, then an astronaut to be a doctor.
Bio and mmr(mirco medical robots) seem to be a good way for sms ( space medical service)
I was born In Brigham
How about if someone dies in ISS? The body is put in next returnflight to earth? Is dumped in space on trajectory to earth’s atmosphere? Is placed in Proton to burn with other garbage?
They should hang people from the ceiling and have them work upside down.
Change the reporter please, is a disaster.
Dr. McCoy has approved this video.
It takes a special kind of person to handle multiple crises at once. And to stay calm and lucid. Space travel will never be ‘safe’. It won’t be as safe as air travel, and even air travel has it’s moments of crisis and calamity. Space even more so.
I imagine NASA is already doing this, but it makes sense to train one or two physicians, plus a nurse perhaps, to join a deep space mission and deal with such medical emergencies.
the camera angles @ 2:41 till 3:05
Need military based combat medical training, also WFR (Wilderness First Responder) course would help as well in order to train for “McGyvering” medical solutions.
Great video. Do you know any companies like this in Houston, Tx. Please share.
Loren is too attractive and distractive for this space mission 🙂
Don’t know what will happen when there is a emergency for kids, so this issue will have to have expert doctors
What if someone gets appendicitis while traveling to Mars?
Can’t they just solve the emergency with nanotech? 😀
Without 0 g it would be really difficult to simulate.
