Stalin didnt see it as the only way. By middle 1942 there was no way germany could win with Hitler as leader. The only reason the allies landed is so the ussr didn’t take all of Europe.
Yes, Stalin was so desperate that in 1941 he defeated Germans in a battle of Moscow, then in 1943 the best German Army capitulated in Stalingrad and in July 1943 best German tank divisions were defeated in a battle of Kursk after which Soviet started their offensive liberating the country and pushing into the Europe. Stalin was so desperate that if not the D‑day — his tanks would had eventually arrived at British Chanel taking Berlin and Paris on their way.
And yes, I am aware that this is a fake history channel to fool illiterate folks, but still.
Britain wasn’t alone, they had their Commonwealth allies behind them.
