Google Assistant will soon be able to act as your real-life translator in 27 different languages. Google announced today that the voice assistant is getting a new “interpreter mode” that can translate in real time so you can hold conversations with someone who doesn’t share the same tongue. It works, but it’s not magic.
CORRECTION: Google Assistant’s Chinese interpreter only includes Mandarin, not Cantonese.

She ain’t as fast as the chick who books appointments for you.
So, still doesn’t work 😀
i don’t get it, google translate already has a conversation mode
She’s gonna eat shrimp for sure
shrimp is “xia”, “xia zi” is not a common saying. What google heard was “sha zi”, which is sand in english.
I think the assistant should provide instructions in both languages in advance, like telling to wait for the tone before speaking. In its current state, I don’t think two people would be able to communicate anything meaningful and would give up. I wish they would have shown the English to Mandarin translation as well so we could know how well it was translating to Mandarin.
I hope Esperanto is added in less than 5 years.
Should’ve used an easier language lol. Like spanish to English. I bet Google has that down 100%
Drop Endcard Footage in Here
Mandarin must be difficult as hell
We already had this in google translate. It has been there for years.…
Anakin Skywalker reincarnated
i love sand in my food
Google just took his job she can do that on her phone she asked for food and directions google maps yelp
I wonder why Google is rolling this out to home hubs/smart speakers first. How often do we have people in our homes that do not share our language? It would make more sense to roll the interpreter mode on mobile phones as that’s what we take with us when we go out in the world.
Her mandarin is pretty bad, she indeed said 沙 (shā — sand) instead of 蝦 (xiā — shrimp), so it isn’t google translate’s fault. Why couldn’t they find someone native at mandarin?
So right now its just basically google translate in a tablet. Hopes it gets better in time and more languages added.
i hate sand it’s coarse and rough and it gets everywhere
May not be perfect, but imagine how good it’ll be in anothrr 5 year’s time, and in 50 year’s time it’ll be ubiquitous.
蹩脚的普通话
She already speak english, what a troll
It’s now available on Pixle devices with the latest feature drop.…and it’s amazing..far more accurate that in the video.
Why their is no Tamil in the list CEO of alphabet is sudhar is mother tongue bis Tamil don’t have a this auto function? Seriously
Bye bye jobs
I think they both should wear headsets so the recognition system picks up their utterances better

Writes the questions also in the language ‚a good language learning app.
i will activate this mode when in the company of people i think are talking about me in there language 🙂
