Ama­zon cre­at­ed jobs in the states where it set up their busi­ness , just like Wal­mart and many oth­er companies.

I know I am a year late, but this top­ic still inter­ests me because NYC con­sid­ers this a win. Who does­n’t con­sid­er it a win is all the local busi­ness­es that saw tons of mon­ey com­ing into their busi­ness only to see it fade away when the local politi­cians poo-pooed the mod­el. I still don’t know why they con­sid­er it a win. It seems to me if you loved there and owned prop­er­ty, rais­ing the val­ue and bring­ing jobs to the area is a good thing. Today, I know that they regret that deci­sion with all the peo­ple leav­ing NYC. Today, I would think, they would be hap­py to have all that mon­ey com­ing into the city instead of going out of the city, but that is the big­ger pic­ture. All the locals could not see it a year ago.
Today, most of the busi­ness­es I worked with are leav­ing NYC. Why do you think that is? Are those politi­cians hap­py now?

Tech com­pa­nies don’t bring in good pay­ing jobs for the aver­age work­er. These are high­er pay­ing jobs for the col­lege edu­cat­ed pro­fes­sion­al work­er. When a tech com­pa­ny moves in hous­ing gets expen­sive and neigh­bor­hoods are gen­tri­fied push­ing out the mid­dle and low­er mid­dle class. San Jose is prob­a­bly one of the rich­est cities in Amer­i­ca because of tech com­pa­nies but the gap between the rich and poor is wide. They were right reject­ing Ama­zon in NYC. Why do you think Seat­tle hous­ing is expensive?
