Can the judges make the same blade that’ll hold up?
At no time in my 60 years on this earth, 53 of them with a knife on me have l ever tried to baton my knife through a steel bolt. That test is wrong bordering on stupid.
I’m not against the strength tests that this show performs, but could we be a bit more realistic? The judges act like they know the history of the weapons so could we have a accurate test that shows how the weapon would hold up to the punishment the weapon would expect? Not with: “Hey, lets drop Mjolnir on a pocket knife” and then chastise the smith because it got catastrophic damage.
Batoning on friction knife doesn’t sounds right, does it ?
This friction folder video shows to much like it is the only blade ever made
Everyone criticising Jay but wait there is no Jay in this show.
Although there is J. Neilson where J stands for James and he is one of the (<200) ABS Master smiths present
Jay is the worst judge.
Wrong toughness test for these types of knives.
This was a stupid test anyway

Ridiculous test of J. Neilson, a weapon of this style does not receive such an impact, it does exactly to disqualify the participants …
Tests should be more real according to what each weapon was designed for …
if a weapon kan survive Jay’s test it can survive Nukes with ease
This is beyond ridiculous. What did Jay expect? Too bad he didn’t bleed a whole lot more. The moronic nature of what he was doing deserved more severe consequences. How sad that we celebrate the wanton abuse of well crafted equipment. I’m done with this whole mess.
“yeah, my knife wasn’t made for that kind of abuse.“
says a forged in fire finalist whos never seen the .
show before.
I’m glad the guy with the bat got cut for hitting the knives so hard
Ok guys, you made some beautiful knives here, so let’s destroy them before further testing!
When you have 2 catastrophic failures but the show is too short so they have to keep going
This kind of tests are just plain stupid.
“Your edge held up fairly well“
No it really didn’t, I get less damage chopping through steel nails with knives I heat treat in my back garden. That HRC is like what 48 or lower lol.

I couldnt do this Show. I’d get too ticked off at some of these Tests.
What, you mean you DONT design your knives to be beaten with baseball bats edge first into solid steel bolts? Freaking amateur night here. Thats like year one of blacksmith training.
I believe before this strength test j Nelson should have a prototype knife to show such that it will pass the test.. !!!
Really no knife is built to cut a bolt!!!! That was not a good test.……
Read guys something about qualitative tests and maybe you willbe know why Leatherman is more expensive than noname chinese multitool. Read something about car crash tests, and maybe you willbe know why sometimes is better baton few times knife blade in big steel bolt, than choping few years wood, cuting meat, and slice bread to check how strong and reliable can be knife you just forged/made/bought.
I get that they need to make sure that the blades are all strong and that they don’t have any treat heat or any other issue while being made. Though, thier test are being way too harash sometimes. The only reason why i could agree on these kind of tests is “For the money you pay for a knife/sword/any other weapon with a blade you have to have a good quality product”. The only thing. It’s not like i am going to smash my knives into concrete or steel,i am going to use it to cut (kill if in wilderness) and use it’s good enough strength to maybe chop some wood or create small items out of wood. Sticking to wooden items for tests should be good enough i’d say.
This test is just stupid
People not getting the strength tests: they have to distinguish the contestants with a hard test…the blade that FAILED THE LEAST passes!
