Creating a physical product is difficult, even without the added risk of someone stealing your idea. In this first episode of In the Making, Ashley Carman chats with creators about how they dealt with people ripping off their ideas and manufacturing knock-offs. We unpack the challenges they face and how they overcome them.

Have you ever bought a knockoff?
its evolution maken beter and cheaper i hope the wil do it whit all products so life can be more cheaper
China 😀 Mofos
😛
sue them for copy write
I’m listening this though my knock off airpods.
Don’t make things in China.
Sure, they could buy things, reverse engineer them, make more and sell them.
Or, they could be the guys making your item but make 20k instead of the 10k you ordered.
Far easier to just make more…
כל הכבוד נמרוד!
China China China China is all i hear on anything knocked off copied bootleged
Aliexpress left the chat
Well that’s one phone company I won’t be buying from, arseholes.
I feel bad but the knock offs are just cheaper and sometimes better ngl
Controversial opinion : knock-offs are really not a problem. Sometimes they improve on the original design, sometimes they make the product more available, or cheaper. Good creators won’t stop creating. They don’t need to get rich, they need to be able to live decently, like everyone does. Basic income for everyone is the answer on this topic aswell. Stealing other people ideas is the basis for every human creation. Have a nice day fellow human 🙂
cough China cough .… . . still cant innovate .… .
Does this “knockoffs” also happen with books?
“it’s a button you plug into your headphone jack” probably wouldn’t have aged all that well
I see a lot of “creative” product made by xiaomi. It makes mr think “how they have idea to make this good product?” And now I know
Pressy is amazing wtf
I bought lego oxford for the army tanks and its a very good quality so im fine
I bought a pressy from Kickstarter and it was the software that killed it. It only worked about 50% of the time if the software even started on boot up. 5 years later and I’m using BxActions to remap my Bixby button to do the same thing and it works 95% of the time so I bought the Pro version.
Ask Amazon about knockoffs
The Lumio is around $200 bucks.
I’ll shamelessly buy a knockoff for much less.
Great series started by verge. Love to see more videos. Best of luck for pricey creator.
Have we learned from this lesson? Stop giving away all of American ideas and money to China!
Really good episode..
Vergestarter, how does that sound?
Isn’t this just how free flow of ideas and products work, you know… like unregulated markets and free trade??? The consept of owning an idea is pretty absurd. If you can’t supply products at the price and quality the market wants, then move on to something else.
This is what happens when you outsource your manufacturing to a country which doesn’t have moral law or respect towards other countries
waiting to see a knockoff Falcon9 🙂
its either they dont want to bring lawsuit to xiaomi due to the price or they get paid to not do it by xiaomi
Fact: Oreo(s) are a knockoff of Hydrox, a cookie filled with cream.
Is this why trump banned china ?
isn’t this what china has been doing for years in order to do business with them for cheap slave labor cost businesses turn over intellectual rights etc. then china makes knock offs and under sells them . but hey china dementia joe biden and his china crack head son will put an end to all that or the democrats that are sleeping with china spies.
but hey don’t say anything or the socialist communist radical liberal democrats that support the violence of anarchist , antifa communist and the black lives matters mobs (except when they never protest in front of abortion clinics that kill thousands of black babies every year, where’s al Sharpton, where’s jessie Jackson ??? where are all the black liberal faith leaders ??? ) might call you a racist when they don’t agree with the truth.
🙂
Pressy, really stupid product, I never had it, but it’s reeeealy stupid
I swear lumio itself is a knock off. I saw book lights back in the nineties made from actual books. They’re not new.
“Not the verge” ‑Nimrod, had me laughing.
I’ve always got the idea that a knockoff is an amazingly bad version of the product that doesn’t really work. But then we gotta think outside the box, is a cheap laptop that uses for example the Windows 11 a knock-off or not ?
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery……………oh wait ☹️☹️☹️
Lumios light up book is $225 and knock off is $25 so sorry thats on you for ridiculous pricing
