At least some iPhones are already 5g capa­ble. But no one is talk­ing about it.
Phone man­u­fac­tur­ers have had years to get ready for this. And they have.
A friend of mine who is a Saint Louis coun­ty PO. Has a new­er iPhone. It’s not any of the 11s as it does not have the triple cam set up, so it’s either a X/10 or a Xr/10r.
The SLCPD has already switched over to 5g. Some iPhones like, we’ll call him Bob, Bobs phone already being 5g capa­ble was giv­en a soft­ware update that acti­vat­ed the 5g radio. And he was in busi­ness.
The ser­vice is through ATT, he ran a ook­la speed test. 230+ down­load and 60+ upload. His phone shows 5g at the top, not 4g or LTE.
I under­stand Apple and sell­ers don’t want cus­tomers to know some of their devices are 5g ready because that will hurt the sales of the new­er devices. But the truth is the truth and some iPhones are already good for what’s to come.
Being that his phone is not a 11 of any kind but in the X fam­i­ly, it also leads me to think that all the 11 mod­els are also 5g capa­ble.
The speeds on his phone were faster than my Char­ter Cable speeds. Max 200mb down­load. My modem is not quite capa­ble of 200, and my wire­less routers no more than 100mb.
So Bobs phones data speed is more than three times faster than my home inter­net..
74.8 down­load and 5.8 upload. On the best day, I could not get close to 8mb on my phone, which is what it is sup­posed to top out at.
The IT dept at SLCPD has the soft­ware update to acti­vate the 5g in those iPhones already capa­ble. It stands to rea­son that all the retail out­lets also have that soft­ware, and all the Apple stores as well.
Rea­son aside. I would bet cash that either, none of those places will know these phones are capa­ble because Apple doesn’t want the info out. Or they will pre­tend, hide or deny the truth of the mater just so they can sell you that new 1200+ dol­lar phone to get you into 5g. When the phone you prob­a­bly already have can do it.
