At this year’s WWDC, Apple is expected to bring iPad apps to the Mac by opening up Marzipan to developers. In this Processor episode, Dieter Bohn talks about why iOS apps on Mac are such a big deal. Marzipan could bring more variety to the Mac ecosystem and make iPad a fully functional device. But to pull this off, Apple needs to make these new Marzipan apps the default for all apps moving forward.

What are you hoping to see at Apple’s developers conference this year?
Yea Learning from MS Windows 8’s failure
If you don’t all in
You Fail.
It will breakdown the business of ipads
With all the talk of putting MacOS on the iPad — I think focusing on beefing up one of the most important components, Safari, in iPadOS was a good strategic move — web apps are still the future & will retain Apple’s orig vision of iOS since 2007 imho. I am very eager to toss the idea of refreshing my ole skool 2007 MacBook and the combination of the iPad Pro, iPadOS, Project Catalyst, and this video definitely gives me hope we’re going in the right direction. Id be down to 1 last desktop app: TheBrain and once that goes, I’m about to throw Linux on it to buy more time for this convergence to happen. Now to be fair, I was a coder in a past life so I do have a secret wish for Xcode support on the iPad Pro 😉
Hi !
Thanks for the informations and the quality of explaining the purpose of this project.
I have a question, I’m working in audio pro/event. I have some mixing console app on IOS, could I’ll get it on macOS Catalina or it’s just for “social” app ?
Thanks for the answer !
Just came across this! Will apple highlight apps that have been ‘macinized’ or will we have to just buy and try apps until we realise they aren’t native MacOS apps? I’m all for apps being run on MacOS god knows we need a bigger App Store.. but I want to be told they are iOS 13 apps… not just blindly buying them in the App Store.
And UWP crying in the background
XD
Goodbye Microsoft
No, I think the Catalysts Project is a two year plan for the A‑series chip based Mac in 2021, Mac developers would have a much easier time fixing their apps.
Thanks for conveying this message! I’m a software developer and my work requires a lot of coding and design that is best suited for a MacBook. I personally like a MacBook over iPads as full blown desktop class operating system is what I need, and I don’t like to carry around iPad like a toy to where I work. The 13″ MacBook Pro is my favourite piece of equipment for its performance, amazing portability, and just the way it looks and feels. Combine that with the ability to run windows too, its just a dream device for me. I will never in a million years, switch to anything else other than my 13″ MacBook Pro no matter what anyone says. I absolutely and entirely loved this idea when it got announced.! I really hope apple comes out successful with this idea.
Will make the iPad better. The i can say that current iPad Pro is my favorite computer I’ve ever owned. And I’ve never said that about any computer ever.
I would rather Apple fix the billions of bugs that exist in MacOS Catalina before they start introducing new features.
You got it right lol
