The Ocean Cleanup’s System 001/B has successfully captured 60 1‑cubic-meter bags of plastic from the Great Pacific garbage patch and returned it safely to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the organization held a press conference today to discuss its plans to develop the plastic into reusable products. We spoke with CEO Boyan Slat about what needs to be done next.

Isn’t turning them into more products continuing the cycle anyway? It’s all just a big horrible dirty circle hah.
I 1000% approve of this message and ambitious vision this young man has! I wish I’d have the financial backup to propell me to significantly make an impact on these environmental issues!! I’m somewhat disappointed that not many super wealthy individuals haven’t stepped forward with their heavyset pockets willing to throw in some of their earnings for a better cause other than the norms out there!! From what I’ve heard, these small chips of plastics can find their way into our bodies through the marine life out there who are the first to consume these toxins, thereafter we are next in line to fall victim to God only knows what sort of adverse health risks we expose ourselves to due to our indifference and passive attitudes towards these global issues!! This guy’s company should’ve been in full scale operation with tens If not hundreds of employees working around the clock to save ourselves from ourselves by now since the company’s inception…what the heck is creating this sort of slow advancements man?!?!?! Is it the marketing strategy? Isn’t the public aware of the dire situation at hand? What is it?? Sometimes I swear, I feel like being some sort of divine being out there unaffected by any sort of human interaction, and just let humanity bring about its own demise through their very own implemented practices and ways of conduct, for real!!!
Be proud of yourself my friend
An awesome effort. In vain unfortunately. For every pound cleaned up, one ton dumped in. Or is it a million tons? Silly me. Cleaning up this planet to an acceptable level is like telling the Elites of the World to give up the schematics of a free energy device that will stop the use of fossil fuels. 🤣
Look at the size of those ships how much garbage did they get for the fuel consumption I think somebody s sniffin glue to think this is a viable way to do this, need s to be solar or wind powered maybe and funded by the New Word Order s carbon tax
Finally some wants clean up the ocean
No has tried it before
Bless this young man.
My hero.
Fantastic!
Your gonna get a Nobel peace prize for this, good luck
I have total admiration and respect for Boyan..
One track mind..
Well done..
You already work with scientists. in order to bring more money into your business, you could sell your plastic raw materials to the companies that produce plastic goods and could recycle your collected plastic and pay you for it. I admire your job and am very grateful for what you do!
Ocean Cleanup should team-up with Mr Trash Wheel and put one in the harbor of every major port city, plus a bunch of system 2’s floating around? badda bing
Just a thought. Plastic arks . about 2 per country. Just in case of massive flooding. Every 450 years tare them down and rebuild them that way they are always there . We can’t save everyone butwe can make sure life continues on .
the problem with making products from that trash is that plastic is nearly impossible to recycle. for most plastics you can only recycle them once (if that) and then they become too brittle to make into anything else
Crazy idea for the companies producing plastic products. Embed micro metal in the plastic. Then when the product ends up in the ocean. Tow those electromagnets they use under trucks to clean highways of metal. Thinking bigger, Magnetize a ships hull and just drive it around attracting the metal embedded plastic!!
And Proud he should be.. The team is getting bigger..
Great job please don’t ever get disheartening
He looks like the guy from smile squad
gooooosh how do I get involved with this. Is there a jobs page I can source?
This is amazing. Someone is really thinking differently to save the environment here. This young man is a savior in this modern disastrous times we live in.
How many exotic/rare fish are killed with the clean up process? Good work with the amount picked up and efforts.
May God bless this team and watch over them.
God bless u all for this!!
i throw extra plastic in the ocean
