As the story in the film “Guardians of the Galaxy” goes, character Peter Quill’s dying mother made him a mix called “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” that he rocked out to with his Walkman while he bounced around the galaxy for 26 years. I did a deep dive into the question: would that mixtape have lasted for 26 years in space? To answer this question, I use a tub of liquid nitrogen to determine if the Walkman and cassette could have truly withstood the test of space.

Where is season 2
A Walkman is not waterproof, so not fair test
Also…sound doesn’t travel in space.
It’s the moisture that killed it
I was really hoping this test wouldn’t be done to a rather rare working example
1:43 there seems to be s skull on the test tube thingy
What if you head it back up though
mmmm nommy content
Dumb
3 minutes of pointless. If starlord’s walkman was at ‑195.8°C, starlord was at ‑195.8°C. Not only would he be very dead, he would be seen walking in nitrogen rain and sheets of dry ice whenever this “exposure” happened.
Conclusion: his walkman probably didn’t get very cold
Why were the planets he visited not that cold? idk; but apparently they aren’t
This was his lowest viewed video from the last 10 months damnn after this video he got at least a million views a video 😂😂
.
Walkman was kept with him = he never experienced ‑455 or whatever, so it wouldnt have been exposed to space unless Quill was
In space for 26 year…where did he find batteries for that thing
I got my working credit cards from Starvendor on Telegram, I paid $200 for $2000 I swear this guy is amazing in dealing💯💯
…I feel like the fact it was submerged in a liquid didn’t help.
Okay Marques, that was really stupid.
I mean, you did dunk it in a liquid.
This hurts to watch man.
Forgot to check if the Walkman was working BEFORE the experiment.
You jammed the motors with moisture, there is no moisture in the space.
Space is cold, but there is nothing to transfer heat from an object, except infrared light, so the Walkman is on his hip, being warmed from his hip, it would have been fine. Until cosmic rays hit it or something.
Love your videos but this is far from replicating space. Energy transfer in a vacuum does not equal energy transfer in a liquid.
That and things don’t so much “freeze” in space, they dissipate energy or heat in this case. The Walkman might eventually freeze but it could retain energy/heat for a time.
Dumbest test ever
This was nauseating to watch it was like watching a snuff video how he just dips the Walkman into the liquid nitrogen it is so hard to find one of those and this guy destroys a perfectly good Walkman it was hard to watch
That’s not Chris Pratt. That’s mario.
You haven’t considered the rubber bands inside. These are the ones that surely broke inside the Walkman, and are easily repaired. OK, not that easily because disassembling it is a pain, but if you have a spare afternoon, a screwdriver, two hands and 10 bucks to buy more rubber bands, you’re set.
Doesnt he have that force field thing to protect him?, also in space doesnt heat loss happen through radiation,( one of the slowest ways to lose heat)?
……..
Cool video
Space is not cold nor hot. For something to be hot or cold a particle has to touch you to transfer heat but space lacks the density of particles to do that. You should really be testing how the radiation affects the Walkman and the tape.
I would say that the water vapour that froze the moving parts is the culprit. Vacuum of space would’ve not caused that issue. I think.
This was… really stupid. Did you think you could freeze the belt that drives the mechanism and then be able to play anything?
Actually a cassette player thats a predecessor of the walkman went to the moon it was the TC-50 in 1968
Bro you literally just ruined that walkman I have been wanting for so long I just couldn’t bare see you dip it in the liquid nitrogen
In the movie peter quill never played it in space. When he escaped the prison it was in his jacket pocket next to his warm body. And when he rescued gamora it was in his knapsack with insulation. And finally in vol 2 he never leaves the ship at all in space with his walkman.
I love your channel but next time you freeze tech see if he played it first.
Since guardians of the galaxy I have wanted one of this Walkman… and now I have just seen some one destroyed one for absolutely no reason… since this “cience” experiment is completely bullshit…
I enjoy markes videos but this one it’s just dumb…😢
Sony actually made a Walkman for astronauts
