How about this lit­tle con­cealed kid bit of His­to­ry, Euro­peans start­ed own­ing slaves in Amer­i­ca and in Europe around the 15th to 16th cen­tu­ry but as ear­ly as the 10th cen­tu­ry Africans had been going into Europe and cap­tur­ing white peo­ple as slaves. Anoth­er his­to­ry tid­bit they don’t want you to know the first slave own­er in Amer­i­ca was anoth­er black man Antho­ny John­son in 1619 a tobac­co farmer from Vir­ginia who was also black went to court to fight for the right to own anoth­er black man as a slave.

Mr. Abdul-Jab­bar is such a renais­sance man. A won­der­ful ath­lete, author, and his­to­ri­an. I could lis­ten to him for hours.

The issue of slav­ery was addressed by the Colonists in draft­ing by the Dec­la­ra­tion of Inde­pen­dence. Of pri­ma­ry impor­tance was to get all 13 Colonies com­mit­ted to the cause. Push­ing the end of slav­ery would have result­ed in the South­ern States not declar­ing Inde­pen­dence. We look at the idea of “no tax­a­tion with­out rep­re­sen­ta­tion” as being pri­mar­i­ly about self gov­er­nance when the real­i­ty is our found­ing fathers were all wealthy land hold­ers or mer­chants and the real issue was tax­a­tion. For slave hold­ers they would rather pay the tax­es than lose the essen­tial under­pin­ning of their econ­o­my. There­fore the issue of slav­ery was tabled in order to main­tain uni­ty among the colonies.

Per­haps Kareem Abdul Jab­bar should school per­sons CLOSER TO HOME con­sid­er­ing his son is accused of bru­tal­ly stab­bing his neigh­bor over a trash­can! Do not tear down any stat­ues from Amer­i­ca’s past because if you keep bring­ing up slav­ery which is so irrel­e­vant today the stat­ues must go back. Peo­ple of Euro­pean descent must stand up for their her­itage and not bow down to peo­ple of col­or. Racism isn’t a one way street it’s a two boulevard.

hamil­ton did not own slaves, but helpped his in laws get slaves, which is bad. he was per­son­al, deep down hat­ed slav­ery, which is true. he made a friend with a black slave name ajax, which was his moth­er gave him. he mar­ried and made friends who own slaves. almost every­one had slaves. few did­n’t. i don’t believe hamil­ton brought and own them, since he was the per­son who was bad with mon­ey. a col­lege friend who was great with sav­ing mon­ey, and don’t like spend­ing too much. seen it all from hamilton.

Kareem is wrong …John Adams , Ben­jamin Rush , Franklin , and many oth­ers worked to end slav­ery. Adams was more against slav­ery than Hamil­ton. Plus, Jef­fer­son , though he owned slaves , tried repeat­ed­ly ear­ly on to end the trade. Wash­ing­ton, in many instances worked behind the scenes to try and end slav­ery. The 1787 Ordi­nance was cre­at­ed with slav­ery nev­er being allowed in those parts. Many Founders also believed the insti­tu­tion would die out , which unfor­tu­nate­ly they were wrong.

I think some­one needs to remind Kareem that African-Amer­i­cans did own slaves. An not all of them were nice to their slaves
